track bars, help needed
track bars, help needed
I was at the Dodge dealer having my speedo re-calibrated and some other minor stuff and the tech noticed my drivers side lower track bar was bent.
This truck has never seen off-road use and I swear I don't recall hitting anything. I did have new rims and tires put on, I'm suspect that the guys at the tire shop put the floor jack under it when they jacked it up.
Anyone know what it costs to replace it? I've called the dealership but I'm tired of waiting for a return phone call.
I guess now would be the right time for a lift kit. Any ideas?

Hey, I just had mine replaced, but under warranty. My truck was making a bunch of knocking noises when I would turn my wheel. They said the bushing on my track bar was worn and the only way to fix it was to replace the whole bar.
It's a 2003 3/4 ton 4x4.
Well, it's been replaced, but I still have horrible knocking/popping noises coming from the front end when I turn my wheel - especially if I'm turning into like a ditch or some place not flat. Though it did it in the parking lot last night when I was backing out of my spot.
The only thing I've done up front is put a leveling kit in - 2" spacers. Everyone I've talked to say those spacers aren't my problem and wouldn't cause anything like this to happen.
I went under the truck last night and made sure everything was tight - almost broke my hand in the process! Everything I touched with the wrench was tight.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what my problem might be? Driving straight and going over bumps and things is not a problem - no noise. It's only when I turn the wheel and moving at the same time.
Could it be steering? Shocks? Those 2" spacers? Or one or more of those control arms up front? Any ideas??

No knocking or poping for me and I also have the 2 inch leveling kit.
I still haven't heard back from the dealer but if the cost is more than a few "hun", I'll just go to a lift kit and call it good.
Thanks for the help.

Hey Dodge bent mine unloading it off the truck. I never noticed it untill I put my 2"leveling kit, Any way tell them you never noticed it untill now. It was over a year on mine. Replaced it myself when I lifted the front Freebee
Well, I figured out my knocking noise problem. Initially I took it to the dealer and they replaced my track bar. That solved the problem for about two days and then the loud knocking noise came back.
I couldn't imagine what it could be! I was really thinking the 2" spacers I put in was the culprit.
Well, my dad slipped under the truck tonight as I turned the wheel he saw my track bar moving again. I didn't think to check the bolts for tightness after the dealer just installed it, but the thing wasn't tight at all!
We tightened it as much as we could and NO MORE NOISE!
I'm just saying, if you have someone do it for ya...like a dealer...make sure you check that it's tight when you get home. They might have used a torque wrench or an impact wrench on mine and it didn't get it tight enough.

Wow! That seems high! My 1st one was replaced under warranty and ever since I tightened it, I haven't had the problem. I really had to tighten the snot out of it though, but I haven't had any more popping noises. So far, so good!
I put the 2" kit on mine also and afterwords had the same noise. Had the wife turn the wheel while I was underneath the truck. It was the track bar. Got on it with a 1/2" breaker and cranked the snot out of it no more noise.
I did a lift kit on my truck that replaced the track bars. I installed it myself. You can install a track bar in no more than 10 minutes. It's very easy. There is a cam on the front side of the track bar, be sure to install with the cam in the same position.
Thanks, but I just ordered a 6 inch Superlift kit and as you know, it has new track bars in it. I appreciate the offer.
Post a picture of your truck, I like to see it.
Thanks again,
Chad

I am a little confused about the track bars on the new gen trucks. Do they have the ball on the end anymore or do they have a bushing like the older ones?
I see a few ppl have said they have put the 03 bars on the 02's, am I reading this right?
Thanks
Jason

To you guys mean track bar as in the left or right uper and lower control arms or track bar as in track bar that runs parralell to the axel? Mine is making noise also when I crank the wheel and I have a 4.5" lift. I have not had the chance to get under there and check it out.
