i am running the Nitto dura-grapplers 285-70. it was a tossup between toyo and nitto. Discount tires got me a awesome deal on the nittos. i love them, the fill out the wheel wells where the truck looks right now. They ride smooth too. I have had them on for only a week now so i cannot report tread wear, but others on here have said nothing but good things about it.

Not running that size, but stock truck size (265). Awesome tire. On my second set. Ran 55k on the first set towing heavy about 1/3 of that. Even with the srw I have no issues. Quiet, solid and wear real long.

What's the traction like with HTs? They don't look very aggressive. Any complaints?

I looked at the spec for the new 285 HT. Interesting is has a load range E, 121 rating at 80 psi with a payload of 3195 lbs. Same for the 265 load range E.

Toyo HT

Mike, I put a set of 285/70/17 on my OEM wheels almost 10k on them now, I like them very well, quiet, smooth, wet traction is excellent, I have not had them in the dirt much but for the tread design they did good. I paid 900.00 installed with an alignment.

Here's a review from a Canadian, not on a CTD though.

"'04 RAV4 AWD - 215/70/16 OEM - These tires are fine if you never use them on the highway in snow. I actually like them for around town driving, even on gravel and dirt roads, and in the rain they're just okay. In the snow at highway speeds they are a complete nightmare even with AWD. Being Canadian, I can't recommend them for all season use. For the summer they'd be fine."

Never used them myself.

Its a highway tire, not a snow tire. if you want snow tires at highway speeds then get studded tires. I just stick chains on my truck and have no problems. but i dont drive like a crazy Canook!!

Up here, we need a tire that will do pretty much everything. We don't want to be slowed down by a little snow.

I will agree with both previous posts, they are not a snow tire. but if you left your chains at home you might not get home in snow. even in 4x4 my truck had problems moving. but otherwise they are a great tire for southern Ca.

Thanks for the reply. That's pretty much what I was looking for, as disappointing as it is. If they are that bad on a lighter vehicle, I imagine they'd be worse on our heavy trucks. I actually thought they'd be decent in rain and slush with all the siping.

If Toyo made the HT in a 285/75/18, that's what would be on my truck. They look very similar to the Toyo's my Dad used to run on his Freightliner. I really do not need the aggressive tread that the AT offers, since I am rarely off the asphalt.

I not sure I would let one negative review, or several for that matter, dictate my decision. Some drivers can't drive on snow with studs all the way around, snow is slippery, some folks, my daughter included, try to manuever on ice and snow like its a summer day.

I agree I currently live in VA and might see some time in the sand thats it, I dont want an agressive tread but a tire that fills up the wheel well and is kinda squared up for lack of abetter term also gotta be something quiet, Does anyone have a pic of them mounted ?
