(ECM) on vehicles equipped with a diesel engine over
the Programmable Communications Interface (PCI)

point near the middle increment within the normal
range on the gauge scale.

Thanks N Johnson. There you have it. IT is a worthless gauge...that reads what Chrysler wants YOU the customer to think is "normal".

So the REAL oil pressure could be 6 psi or 106 psi.........who would know?

Geesh.......give me a gauge that means something. Or don't even bother.

The highest tranny temp i have ever seen was around 230 and that was backing a loaded trailer uphill. It rarely goes over 200-210 towing and without a load usually in the 170-190 range. I would think 280 degrees is getting pretty darn hot but I don't know.

Does anyone know where the indication is getting its' signal from? Is it pan temperature, torque converter outlet temperature to the cooler/warmer or somewhere internally inside the transmission?

As it seems to me and others I've been chatting with this about 260-275F is quite hot. Like others have said, it's too late at that point and it' makes one wonder why they'd let it get that hot.

Thanks

Depends where the sensor was mounted.
Some use the pan but best location for instant feedback is the hot line coming out the tranny (passenger side) to the cooler.

Also seen up to 250*, backing a 10,000 lb up a slight grade.

To be more specific I was hoping someone would know where the factory sensor is located?

What factory sensor??
Did the 05's come with a gauge or a warning light? Mine did not.

Well, if theres a factory light that comes on when the trans gets too hot wouldn't you think that there is a temperature indicator (TI) that triggers the computer to turn the light on? If so, where is that sensor located? Inside the trans right? I have a aftermarket gauge hooked up to the outlet of my torque converter and not once tripped the Trans Temp High light even when I've burried the gauge well past 250F climbing hills. So, there has to be a TI somewhere else within the transmission signalling the computer to trip the light on. A few guys I've spoke with have asked where this is and I can't answer that. My 2005 only has a warning light and I've never seen it on.
