Ok has anyone figured out how to unhook the stupid reverse honk piece of crap. I scanned the big thread, but didn't see anything. It did it to me in the parking lot today, maybe it wasn't actually in park. I was just getting out to go in the store and the turbo timer was cooling down. I was half way out the door when the stupid thing started honking. I hate when i get in to back up another inch to hook up the trailer and the stupid thing starts honking. Would just take the fuse but there is times when you actually need a horn, especially when you live in deer country.

Some body on here or cummins forum did it the other day.

 

start the truck with the belt plugged in and wait for the seat belt sign to turn off once off unblug and plug the belt back in and out 3 times within 15 seconds, you will hear a chime and shut the engine off and it's done. If you're like me you probably won't hear the chime but it will disable the back up horn and the seat belt unbuckled alarm (I think)

 

I'm gonna try that in the morning. Hope it works!!

 

This doesnt work to disable the backup horn. This will disable the seat belt reminder but thats it. I don't think there is a way to "disable" the backup horn. Alot of people will just buckle the seatbelt behind their back. As long as the seatbelt is buckeled it will not honk when backing up with door open.

 

Thanks I'll try it in the morning. Already disabled the seatbelt thing and it still honks. Can't remember what I did though.

txfiremedic, I thought that might be the case, don't want to have to hook the seat belt behind me everytime i get out but it might be the simplest answer.

What about manipulating the wiring at the seat belt that sends the signal as to whether or not the seat belt is connected? To me it seems that a jumper wire across the correct wires would work. Perhaps this has been brought up already...?

 

I was reading through this thread and just began to recall that mine has never done this. 2007, but with manual transmission. I've probably hooked up to my trailer with the door open over 20 times this past fall.

Maybe the only way to fix it is with a manual.

 

Well, I have an '05 that I refuse to get that flash done on. I did however just jump the wires together on the seat belt wire harness. I just used a small paperclip cut down to size and pushed it into both sides of the plug on the seat belt wire next to the seat.

 

If one was to disable the reverse horn all that is needed is a scotchlock connector like the kind used to connect trailer wiring. Just clamp it over the two seat belt wires coming out of the seat belt connector. Had mine done the first time it honked on me while hooking the trailer. Your seat belt reminder will not work after that. Be careful not to short it on anything.

That is is one wanted to disable a manufacturer's safety system....

 

When I am hooking up a trailer, I just buckle the seatbelt behind me and I can maneuver with the door open. Once done, I buckle up and go. That stupid horn really scares the horses.

 

kinda crazy to jump those wires together-since your face may pay the price.

The sensor that indicates if the seatbelt is done up is somehow connected to the deployment of your airbags. There is some kind of logic in there that changes the deployent timing & rate of acceleration of the bag when you are belted in or not.

I didn't know about the backing up with the seatbelt done up thing-that'll come in handy, but I don't think I'll be jumpering wires-seems a little risky to me....

 

Could go to a junkyard and get the metal piece at the end of the belt. Then you could just insert the metal piece when backing and remove when done. Or try to make on out of plastic.

Your face will pay the price. The jumper will cause the seatbelt pre-tensioners to not deploy. The pre-tensioners pull you back in the seat milli-seconds prior to airbag deployment. Without them is like the first generation airbags. We saw lots of facial injuries with the older versions of safety systems (pre pre-tensioners).
