Tick,Tick,Tick,Tick on first cold start

My truck has a very annoying and distinct ticking noise but only on the first cold start of the day. It started doing it a few months ago. It does it whether the truck was plugged in or not. After idleing for about 5 minutes, it goes away. I have been told that it may be air being purged out or something like that.

Does anybody elses truck do this? Anybody have any ideas?

Mine does it. Not to bad....

Mine does it only if I haven't run her hard in awhile. I think it's just injector noise. I've been using a combo of additives plus some B1 that has kept her quiet for some time now.

I have also been told that it is just injector noise, but why would it go away after a short while and not come back till the next cold start? I have also tried to use Howes meaner cleaner, but that does nothing for the Tick.

I have thought about taking it to a dealer, but then I would have to leave it there overnight so they could hear it in the morning...pain in the

are you sure you're not just hearing the lift pump when key is in 'on' position and waiting to start?

There is a thread not more than 4 post down on this exact same subject, its something to do with the injectors. Run pleanty of additives and drive it hard or pull a large load, is what most peoples reponse ussually is. Sometimes it works for me and sometimes not, but the good and wierd thing is it always runs good, just the ticking sound can get to you if ya let it. Im going to run the valves this weekend, ive got around 65,000 and never checked them. I adj. my 99 at around this time years ago. 60-70,000 miles.

No, its only after the engine is started. Like a valve tap on a gasser.

I saw the other thread, but it was an '03...I wanted some opinions from the later trucks.

Is that something that I need to worry about? If so, is it something I can fix?

A guy who's opinion that I trust here said it was just air being purged from the fuel system. Mine does it to. Bout the first minute after it's been sitting for a day/overnight. I wouldn't worry about it. I don't.
