thermostat housing leaking can i run it?
my thermostat housing is leaking a little bit i was wondering if i can run it until i get the new one. i will not be working the truck hard but it will get up to temp it loses about a quarter quart to half a quart then it stops leaking. so should i run it? thanks
With a leaking t-stat housing, you may bring air into the system, causing the water pump to fail, increase pressure within the water jacket (causing lots of problems) and possibly blowing a freeze plug. Overheating could also be a problem.
These are worst case stuff, but I would run it as little as possible if you have to.

Like I said, that's probably the worst possible thing that could happen. If it's just a drip, you're probably ok for a little bit.
If you were bleeding, would you just keep walking around? (where's the 'shrugs shoulders smilie?)

If it is near the hole, and the fluid level is below that, then yes. If it is in the water jacket somewhere, then no. There are a lot of 'what if's ' in this. That, and I don't have the water path memorized off the top of my head.
When air pockets get trapped in the cooling system, it causes a lot of over heating problems...
