TDR Oil Tests
 

Have you read the latest Oil tests results from TDR. They list two Amsoil 5w40s, the cj rated is listed as ho-hum and the other is listed in the good catergory as opposed to best. I have been an amsoil customer for 35 years but the article seems to say there are better oils. There were no numbers for the 15w40 Marine Diesel. Perhaps somone could post the additive package for it. I am due an oil change very soon.

I ran AME 15W40 and was not impressed with it, UOA proved it to boot. I personally think there are better oils out there. Rotella, Delo, and Delvac come to mind...not necessarily in that order.

Edit- And I have had better results with others as well.

Shaeffers 9000. did it get rated?

Have a link to the test reuslts? I would be very interested in reading it.

I don't think you have to worry about Schaeffer's...that stuff is probably one of the best you can come by.

It has performed well for me.

One of the guys at work printed it out and brought it in. It was a very interesting read. Basically, stick with CI-4 plus oils and just pick the one that's on sale.

One interesting sidebar was about fleet operations running their newer DPF equipped trucks with CI-4 oil rather than CJ-4 oil. That way they didn't need to stock two oils, and they didn't need to shorten their oil service interval.

The compromise was that they need to clean the DPF more often, but since it's bolted on for big rigs, this is probably not a big deal. Just swap in a cleaned DPF and get the truck back on the road while the DPF that came out is cleaned for the next truck.

The valvolene Premium blue did the worst ( CJ) The PB CI4+ was the best. SO it was a top and bottom of the list type of deal. I have been worrying and stressed over this whole deal and basically what it boils down to is this

1) Unless you have a stockpile of the CI4+ your ONLY option is CJ
2) CJ is great oil, you just can't go extended intervals like you used too, if you stick with 5,000 mile intervals your engine is perfectly fine!

I felt it was a real bad comparison and test. If the CJ oils are protecting the engines and returning good wear results, I don't see a problem. Comparing the additive levels to make conclusions was very skewed when you know the levels were going to drop between CI and CJ. I can understand sticking with the CI oils if you still use LSD and not ULSD.

While you would expect the oil companies to praise their brands, Delo and Rotella in particular, their many million mile tests seem to confirm the CJ formula reduces wear as long as used with ULSD.

If you want to get the CI formulas, they are avialable at any John Deere retailer. Typically $8.80/gal.

I just found by accident 6 gallons of Mobil 1 Delvac 1300 15/40 CI4+ today on CLEARANCE. Napa also still makes ans sells their Superfleet same rating but you can only get it in 5 gallon pails.. Not my idea of fun LOLOLOL SOO I bought the 6 gals of this Mobil one and I will see how it stacked up on TDR, can't remember. THis should get me to my 10,000 miles and switch over to Synthetic..
