Talked to the dealer today!

Took my truck to the local dealer and started talking to one of the guys in the service department, i asked him if they had sold any of the new 07's with the 6.7 in them, and he said they have sold two new 07 trucks and four new 6.7 motors. Apparently the two guys that bought the trucks didnt pay very close attention to the low sulfur fuel that the 07's had to have, he said they put the wrong fuel in them and it just tore the motor apart. Neither one of them were covered under warranty, and neither one of them had over 10,000 miles on em.

Really? I wonder where they got the LSD. I didn't think there would be any available after Jan. 1. I haven't seen any LSD around my area for months now. I really am surprised the fuel would do that much damage to these engines, I would have expected just some emissions problems. Anybody else heard of such issues?

i still get LSD everytime i can. i didnt know it would tear up the motor either thought it was just bad on the emissions equipment

Wasn't there a drop date for the LSD vs. ULSD by federal law? I asked at one of the places I fill up and they said all they had was ULSD for a while, just hadn't changed the stickers. Where are you getting yours?

dieselbeef 01-26-2007 09:02 AM

thats a load of crap. lsd is gone after the 1st of the year. my distributor even argued with me til he checked. ulsd is the only thing they are producing at all. how could it tear up the motor as the sulpher content is higher and could reall yo nly cause issues with the reburn cat on it...huh

You can still get LSD in a lot of places. I drive a big truck and see it everywhere. The Jan 1 '07 deadline was only for engine manufacturers and also the servvice stations were supposed to have stickers on their pumps by then. LSD will be available until Oct 2010 and then no-one will have it. Probably no-one will have it a few months before that but by law all fuel sold after Oct 2010 must be ULSD.

As far as the old fuel in the new engs, never heard of it doing anything more than plugging up the exhaust with soot and causing codes. Sounds like a big PITA though and the stupid part is if you can't get ULSD for your 6.7 what are you gonna do. It's unconsciencable that they can get away with voiding the warranty for that.

This thread probably belongs in the 2007 and up forum.

I live up in northern BC Canada, I phoned my bulk plant today to see if they were going to ULSD they just laughed, said they had just changed to LSD, they have no plans on changeing to ULSD, so I wonder if they are not going to send any 6.7 motored trucks up to Canada or what, may walk over and talk to the dealer and see what his take is, im sticking with my 06 for sure now,

So much for taking that new rig to Alaska.

3500lly 01-26-2007 10:59 PM

There are still many parts of the country that don't have ULSD yet but I'm surprised it really did cause problems with the new motors, I've seen the warning sign at the pump but I really didn't know if it would have cause problems

The dealer said the two guys that bought the trucks were big farmers, when he stated this i asked the obvisous question, WERE THEY USING RED FUEL IN THEIR TRUCKS? His exact quote was (I really dont know the difference in diesel fuel's) so who know's they might of been running off road fuel. The diesel fuel didnt blow the motors, but he said that they just couldnt get the truck to run right so they just decided to go with new motors.

There are fuel stations around me still selling LSD.

10 miles one way I get LSD, 10 miles the other way, I get ULSD.

6 and one half a dozen.

I drive a co. truck most of the day and when I need to fill up, I go to the one that is cheaper.

jrsmokestacks 01-27-2007 10:19 AM

Dont you think a complete overhaul still be cheaper than replacing the whole engine??? I think theyre like my dealer, specializing in caravans and neons, not cummings powered trucks.[dummy]
