surging....am i loosing an injector?

so a few weeks ago i noticed a surging going on with my truck. Seems to do it whether the engine is warm or cold. it doesnt start out right away doing it, after about 5 seconds or so it starts. I can feel it throughout the lower part of the rpm range, no matter the gear or the speed. If i let it run long enough, either idling or driving it, it goes away. if i get on it and run it hard for a little bit, it goes away instantly and doesnt come back till the next restart. what do you guys think?

It sounds like an FCA going out.

Have you checked the codes? If you don't know how, here they are... sometimes you have to turn the key three times vice four...

no codes. I unplugged it for a short time to see if the surging went away. It did, bu the truck was idling real rough.... and of course it then threw a code, but that was expected.

yes sir. Its my understanding that it will cause the cp3 to run at full pressure so it isnt recommended to do for any length of time, so i only did it for a few seconds. long enough to see if the problem went away.

Huh, I have not heard of that.

Well, guess it's time to upgrade... II's bag of parts or wicked diesels have FCA DIY CP3 mods...

The Fuel Control Actuator which is located directly behind the cp3 injector pump. Has a plug coming out of it and 3 stubborn screws holding it on. It meters the fuel entering the pump and after time can begin to stick.

You can buy an aftermarket CP3 upgrade for about 400 bucks, and they are not hard at all to replace if you have decent wrench turning skills.

Go with the 3. You have the mods to use it.
