Sunday breakdown saved by DTR.com
There I was driving down the freeway with the truck loaded with motorcycles and gear. I noticed a guy pull up next to me to flag me down. He motioned that something was coming from under my truck. At that time, I got a CEL and could smell fuel. I pulled off of the freeway and could see that I was leaving a trail of fuel behind me. I stopped to see that my truck was dripping fuel from everywhere. The entire underside of my truck was dripping diesel!!
I shut the truck off and checked under the hood. Fuel was everywhere. I sat there for a minute taking it in, and then got my son to motor the engine over. It would not crank, but I could see where fuel was squirting from one of the injector lines. I then sat there thinking what a terrible situation. Dealerships closed, a ways from home, and looking like a tow truck was in my future. Then I remembered a thread I read here about am injector line that could fail. I bought the line last year and put it behind the rear seat before we made a long trip. I pulled the line out and to my great joy....it was the one that was leaking!!! I grabbed some wrenches, burned my hands changing it, but I was back on the road!!! part # 4988808 will be behind my seat!!!!! Thanks to the info on DTR I saved myself a big bill or at the very least, a major inconvience. |

I carry that part as well, best to be prepared, glad it worked out the way it did for you - GOOD STORY. Keep an eye on the clamp bracket, not just the clamp itself, gets loose at the base mounting bolt and vibrates/shakes.

I am not sure what number it was. I would have to go look to check. It was the one that I read here om DTR that could break. No mods to the truck, and only 47k miles.

The # 4 line on my 06 was not as tight at the clamp as the rest,wonder what gives,good info.

The folks here are the VERY best. The information is outstanding. This site should be mandatory study at Auburn Hills. I know if I worked there (Auburn Hills) DTR would be my home page......

Right at 2k miles on the new line and at midnight last night it broke again. It looks like the isolator loosened up and fell off. I guess it didnt take long for vibration to break the line again on the motor side.
It is good to have the line on hand, but I hope this doesnt become too commonplace. |
That's a bummer, I guess we should be carrying some loc tite for that isolator?

The torx screw that holds the isolator is staked in. It came out anyway. My luck I guess.

I heard this was a big issue with the 04.5 up years with the #4 line cracking.
Happened to us while towing a skid steer, fortunately we were only a few blocks from the dealer. We now have an extra in the truck, along with a new belt that the motor decided to eat yesterday. |
