Did you just change your oil with Rotella T? If so, it's normal...it will go away after about a 1000 miles or so. That's why around here, we call it "Rosmella"

Valvoline Premium Blue, Chevron Delo 400, Amsoil...from what I hear all of those don't have the oil smell that Rotella has. But I am pretty sure that the only one of those oils that out PERFORMS Rotella is the Amsoil and it's expensive. I just bite the bullet and deal with the Rotella smell until it goes away because I know that I have good oil in my engine...

On another note...can you visibly see any leaks?

Delo 400 has a higher flash point than Rosella, use it you get rid of the smell and you have less chance of coking the bearings in your turbo

Is this with their dyno oil, synthetic or both, Lary?

Not to mention Delo 400 has better overall chemistry and proven lower wear numbers in diesel engines (backed up by UOA). I never have understood why Rotella has the better market share in the 15W-40 HDEO's

I have gotten that smell on Rotella, Valveline Premium Blue, and Amsoil 15W40synthetic. It's normal. The smell is coming from the vent tube from the valve cover. Nothing like the smell of a diesel after you have worked the pudding out of it. An that is what I mainly use mine for. I would never go back to a gas engine. Towing with this truck is a blast...

I agree, and I think given the right conditions, you will get the oil smell with any brand of oil used. Some just smell worse than others.

I use Amsoil 15W40 in my truck and I get the oil smell occasionally. I can only smell it when I get out of the truck and it is usually after working it pretty hard. I use the same oil in my tractor and when I work it really hard I can smell the same smell.

None whatsoever.

You're referring to the new CJ4 formulation. Unless you have the 6.7 with the emissions equipment, stick with the CI-4+ API spec.

Before to long everyone will be forced to use the CJ4 as it's backwards compatible anyway, but loses some add pack mainly because of particulate filters in the new low emissions diesels. Delo 400 also has the CJ4 API oil now.

Are you running Dello 15-40 or is there a difference in weights from Dello to Rotella

They already have stopped making the older CI-4+ Rotella oil as far as I know. I was trying to find some but went ahead and put in the newer CJ4 formulation. I can't tell any difference in it other than the label on the bottle.

I didn't notice any "smell" from it though, on my last oil change. Even on the older blend I only noticed a smell maybe every other oil change and for just a couple of hundred miles or so.
