So does my truck have a block heater?

It's snowing for the first time here in Missouri right now, and my truck started very hard this morning. I know DC says they don't need a block heater but I disagree. The amount of missing and clattering and white smoke that it choked out this morning is evidence enough for me to invest in a heater. My question is, do these trucks have a factory heater installed and I just have to buy the cord for it? Or do they not have one at all and I need to buy the whole thing. I'm hoping to get it done today, because I'm looking at a low of 20 tonight...

Mine has the heater but not the power cord. Got one from my local Cummins dealer and had it installed yesterday. Just a way for Dodge to get some more money.

This has a great diagram of where the heater is...

Just got mine tonight. $45 with tax[yuk] . Dumb idiuts at DC thing that thing is made of gold. 20 for a low is no problem, realisticly you have anouther 60 deg to loose before you realy need to wory abought it not starting. I agree though that I want it pluged in at those temps just to be nice to it. I have to chuckle a little that it snowed in Missouri before it did here. Its definatly cold enough to but it just aint happend yet.

I got mine for $11.46 at the local Cummins shop.

Wow I got hosed. I paid 42.75 for mine. Is the one from Cummins yellow in color? Or is it just black like the one from DC?

Bubba_CTD 11-29-2004 11:12 AM

It was a $10 option when I got mine on my truck... and even though it only gets in the 30 and 40s at the most, I still plug it in at night. :)

$11.46 at Cummins vs $42.75 at DC. Sounds typical of the price difference on anything you can buy at both places. ALLWAYS shop the Cummins store first!!

It is black - same as from the dealer.

If you have already installed the one from the dealer - just go buy one from Cummins for $12 and return it to the dealer. My guess is that you wouldn't be the first to do that :D
