I have not seen any smoke from my tube but I have noticed an oil smell. Just noticed the smell after I got back from a long trip towing, think it may be the brand of oil and I am switching this next change.

On of our Ford's (semi) with a 3406 cat in it smokes pretty good from the vent tube and stinks real bad of oil, trucks runs fine and has GOOD power.

this is pretty commom for a diesel engine guys, specially after a long drive or towing heavy loads. This is just blow by or crank case presure. Unless it is really bad like leaving puddles of oil on the floor of the shop or you are using oil, or if you see a milky white snot in the blow by tube, caused by coolant in the oil. Other wise don't worry about it.

i will look at the color, there is no oil on the ground. if it was a milky white color would that be the head gasket leaking?

Normal to see it from time to time in cooler weather after working the engine a good bit. No issue in my book.

With a real diesel like ours the crank case vent tube will blow a litte steam/smoke! Especially when its cold out it will be more previlent! The oil smell is also normal. Depending what oil you use! I used to use Rotella T and after every oil change it stunk to high heaven! LOL I switched to Mobil Delvac and no smell! Cheers!

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Engines that have a "vacaum pump", can have a smoking problem. If the vacaum circuit has a leak, the vacaum pump will pull excess air through that leak and pressurise the crankcase. aka smoke.
