The shake
So...today I was pulling out of Wally World trying to beat some on-coming traffic. I got on her pretty hard (pretty close to WOT and she broke the 3 grand mark on the tach).
As I come to a stop in the left turn lane, my truck gets the terrible shakes. Engine rpm remains constant, but the whole truck is shaking. The light turns green so I give'r a little throttle and she smooths out. By the time I get to the next light she is idling smooth.
This same thing has happened once before. The first time it happend, I cranked the truck after washing it and drove in back to its parking space. I cut the engine off and didn't think much about it because it was shaking a little more noticeable than usual, but not too bad. The next morning I cranked it from a cold start and the shaking was very noticeable (almost like air in the injector lines on a mechanically injected diesel). I immediately cut it off and popped the hood, drained the fuel filter for a bit. When I cranked it back up, it idled smoothly. So I chocked it up to some sort of computer/sensor glitch.
The truck has ran smoothly for the past month or more until today. It only has close to 8,000 miles on it and has been awesome so far. This is my first new generation dodge, cummins, and electronically controlled diesel, so I'm definetly a n00b here. I'm one of those Ford gasser converts. My only diesel experience comes in the way of mechanically injected Ag diesels. So I'm still learnin.
Has anyone else experience anything close to this? I don't want to think bad/leaky injectors on such a low mileage truck. Besides no CEL so far. I guess I'll be callin the ol' dealership Monday.

Mine did the same thing when I had below 1000 miles on it. The first time it happened I stopped by the dealer and told them about it and they said that I possibly got some bad fuel. He shut up when I told him I was still running the tank that they GAVE me when I bought it. He then told me to run some injector cleaner thru it. I bought some lucas and have been putting that in almost every tank and have not had it happen again.
Thanks for the reply. I stopped by the auto parts store on the way home (right after it acted up) and bought some PS diesel kleen. Do you find the Lucas to work better? I picked the PS just because it was diesel specific. All the Lucas they had was for gas engines.
Mine did this twice in Feb. First time drain some fuel out of the fuel\water separator(filter cannister). Then it happened again so I changes the filter and started using alittle more Howes hasnt done the shake again. I do believe it was bad fuel.
I like lucas better than Power Services I think it is a personal preferance issue. That being said there is nothing better than Stanodyne fuel treatment you can get it at any pump shop.
I had a horrible injector knock in my old 97 called the cummins mechanic he told me to get to get a bottle of Stanodyne fuel treatment I didnt I tried Lucas and PS still had the knock I finally spent the $ and added the Stanodyne drove about 20 miles no more knock the stuff is worth the $
