Rusty Oil Pan

Does anyone know if a rusted oil pan is covered under the 100,000 mile engine warranty? I am off the 7/70 warranty with 88,000 miles and my oil pan is starting to rust to the point where it is starting to rot.
Thanks

If you have a dealership close by why not give them a call or even drop in for a quick Q and A session.

I was looking to see if anyone else had the same problem and had it covered just in case they say no.

How would this happen? I got 2 - 03's and I can t figure out how the pan could rust so much as to rot.

You are saying "oil pan" and not referring to the "Differential covers" right?

I have never heard of any of the oil pans rusting, until you mentioned it here. Mine looks like brand new and I have had my truck over 2 years and 48,000 miles.

However, my original stock rear differential cover started rusting not long after I got the truck. I think the heat burned some of the paint off and started the rusting. I don't have that problem anymore since I replaced it with a Mag-Hytec cover. But I have seen some other guys diff covers rusting and they just sandpapered it and hit it with high temp spray paint if I recall correctly.

Its the great north east and the way they salt the roads in the winter till they turn white. My oil pan is starting to rust and its alot worse then just surface rust, it is scaly and its starting to rot. I know that they are pretty thick but I've seen some oil pans on big trucks rot till they leak. My only fear is having an "auto" mechanic fix it if it is under warranty. There isn't a dealership near me that can really handle working on these engines. My 97 F-250 had the same problem but alot worse and after it had a shinny new oil pan it also had a bunch of other problems. I priced a new pan and its only $250 so I think I'll let it get a little worse and change it myself in the mean time she'll get some rustoleum.

Mine is also rotten. I know Ford used to cover oil pans with corrosion warranty. I suspect mine will be leaking by next spring. I am way over mileage so will be my dime.

Whatever you do with the pan replace it or wait a while try using POR 15 on it instead or rustoleum. POR = "PAINT OVER RUST" this is some pretty tough stuff.
I have seen it applied with a brush and it came out like it was sprayed on, and the stuff is hammer tough!

Yeah - we use POR-15 in the shop for restorations and it's amazing stuff.

Little bumpity bump to revive a very old thread. Changed my oil tonight for the first time since owning the truck and very nasty surprise. On the drivers side of the drain plug is some very bad rust, more like rot. Touch it and oil gets on your fingers. With a little poking i bet i can get through the pan. Anybody else since this post was created have the same problem. If so is this covered by dodges engine warranty, i'm well within it. Obviously i'm going to talk to the dealer just looking to see what i'm walking into. Thanks

Not fun, yuu have to raise the engine up to get a new oil pan on there and it will be so tight you may have to pull the engine to complete the job. Heard of one guy on here that got away with just raising it up with a cherry picker.

Put the 04.5 in my sig down as having a rusty pan. Except in our case it was a tiny spot that was not even noticably rusted, but a pin-hole was formed and we got to spend like $300 for a $20 piece of stamped steel
