Replaced lift pump lower mileage
Replaced lift pump lower mileage
The lift pump went out on my 2004.5 Ram. It was replaced with another filter mounted lift pump under warranty. 60,000 miles. Pre replacement I got 13+mpg. After two tanks of fuel I am under 10mpg after the new lift pump.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jeff

WOW. Both seem very low to me. Are these MPG results while towing? I know mine is a different year and motor, but I'm seeing 16-17 mpg on daily commuting. While towing I'm seeing closer to 15 mpg.
The truck seems to run fine. I do tow with it daily. All in town driving. The dealer first told me the lift pump was not under warranty. After showing it to them in the warranty manual, they agreed to cover it. I wasn't aware of the relocation issue and they weren't going to do any more than they had to. So it went back in the same place.

Their not even suppose to have the cannister mount pump.
Suppose to be old deleated, pulled from invountary etc. Any that come in failed warranty or customer pay including 1998.5 up are suppose to be retro fitted to the new intank style. It comes as a kit, pretty sure theres a old tsb on such etc.Take your truck back and ask them to get on the stick.Call Chrysler. The in tank retro is OLD news. They were more then a day late and a dollar short
Also should NOT be a deductable on the Engine/fuel system warranty. Hey fill out your profile/sig.like the rest of us so we know what you drive. OH there is also a computer reflash that has to be performed when retro to fuel tank is done.

I added to my profile/sig. I will check on the in tank retro but I may mod the truck down the road so I might stick with what I have for now. Either way, the mileage should not have dropped with the new pump. Could it be bad or the wrong pump? If the pulled the pumps from stock, I wonder if they replaced it with something they thought would work instead of relocating it because they had to do it under warranty.

Bad pump maybe.Wrong pump, doubt it.Used the wrong one because of warranty.Doubt that also.Sounds like they don't have a clue.Call and ask them what the heck? I'd ask if they did a reflash at the same time when thats only if the new style pump is used. Was this some place from LOST or Somalia land?

Any dealership this clueless should be doubted at their word and abilities.
Some dealerships don't know much about the CTD engines and unique issues.
My guess is that they got debris or foreign matter into the fuel system. Perhaps try and change the fuel filter and see if that helps.

please don't ever pay $117 to have your fuel filter replaced again! you can get a better than oem, 5 micron baldwin filter for less than $10, and it takes about 5 minutes to do.
I agree but, I didn't want them to have any excusses as to why they couldn't fix the truck or say that they didn't replace the filter so any debris or other problems were caused by not replacing it.
