Reflashed for excessive whit smoke and now my idle up feature doesn't work???

I had a lot of white smoke on start up and when punching it after travelling at a steady rate of speed.

Took it in today to have it looked at and they said it threw a code and they reflashed it with TSB 18-037-04...supposedly for poor fuel mileage(which was getting good), rough idle,(again, which mine was good) and white smoke.

Well, now the idle up feature has been disable...this after I paid $40 to have it done.

I thought when they reflashed it was suppose to update everything

What else could they have messed up??? Did they screw up the reflash.

Funny thing was, when I picked it up from the dealer it blew out MORE white smoke than it ever has!!!

What's up?

As far as I know, the fast idle feature is by default turned off. It has to be turned on to work. After a flash everything goes back to default so the dealership has to turn on any extras.

Call them up and tell them they either enable it for free or give you your $40 back.

why did the dealership charge you anything to do a re-flash for a problem for which there is a tsb? i needed the same re-flash for the cold starting issue and the dealer never mentioned having to pay anything.

As above complain about poor cabin heat, there is a TSB for it. Take it back and explain that the reflash disabled it and they need to re-enable it and it should be No Charge. You already paid for it why pay again..... Just be polite but explain that you paid for it once and should not have to again due to the fact that they disabled it.

HOV 10-10-2007 07:56 AM

They should have never charged you to enable it in the first place.

But yes, the others are correct in that any reflash will diable any features turned on by the dealer. I know this by experience also.

When they re-flashed my 04.5 they disabled it and I went back and tech took all of 5 minutes to re-enable it again. And if you are under 36000 miles as above ti should have been NC if you complained of poor cabin heat. If over 36K then it is at the dealers discrection whether they charge of not.

snowmanx 10-10-2007 11:52 AM

I talked to them this AM and they will redo it...for free. (which they should) They did charge me the first time for it which I thougt was cheesy, and I only had about 30000 miles on the truck at that time.

clsmoothnv 10-10-2007 02:36 PM

Is it common for them to charge for this? I need to get mine serviced and was going to ask them to do it.

NickBeek 10-10-2007 07:02 PM

If you ask at the front desk most dealers don't even know what you are talking about, then they want to charge you when they figure it out. If you are in for some pay work casually walk in the service bay and ask the tech directly. This is what I did and he turned her right on for free.

chipmonk 10-10-2007 08:09 PM

if your truck is under warranty and there is a re-flash that addresses an issue you are having they should re-flash your truck free of charge.

donhov 10-10-2007 09:23 PM

If you complain of poor cabin heat and are under 3 years or 36000 miles than it should be done under warranty, no charge. If over either one than it is up to the individual dealer to decide.
