Rear Driveshaft bolt torque

Anyone know the torque for the four bolts that connect the driveshaft to the rear end? This is for a 3/4 ton 2005 Cummins.

Companion flange bolts should be torqued to 85 ft-lbs.

Thank you, Mr. XLR8R

Sure - anytime. :)

Old thread, but is this in fact the correct torque??? Seems a lot for them tiny bolts???

Just asking... cause I need to snug mine up if this is the case. [duhhh]

Sounds right. When I took mine off to do the U-joints they were a bear to brake loose.

Just to clarify, the rear axle companion flange bolt torque is 85 ft-lbs., the transfer case companion flange bolt torque is 65 ft-lbs., and the front axle companion flange bolt torque is 21 ft-lbs.

Propeller shafts with U-joint straps usually have bolt torque ~ the same (20-25 ft-lbs.)

The companion flange bolts (especially the small Torx drive) are often difficult to break due to the thread-locking patch applied by the factory.

Thanks guys.... torqued em' up right.

Need to do driveline u-joints: front & rear, any tricks?
Thanks ahead of time!

If you have the nylon holding the U-joint caps instead of the snap rings you need to melt it out. Get a MAP gas bottle/torch at ACE or somewhere (unless you have a oxy/acetelene setup) to melt out the nylon that holds the cups in. Propane torch doesn't put out enough heat to get all the nylon out.
