Question for the transmission Experts
My 04.5 had been in a roll over accident when I purchased it and when I got it to the shop and running the truck would hardly move on its own seemed like the trans was slipping (yes i filled it with fluid first) so I put it in low range and drove it in to the shop. Now I have the truck almost done and have excepted that I will have to have the trans rebuilt. However I am wondering if it could be something simple, the truck has 61,000, and although I had to put several quarts of ATF into it, it didn't smell burnt but was dirty. If one of the solenoids were plugged or had a wire off could it make the trans start in a higher gear or have a loss of line pressure enough to cause the problem.
Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated, I have pulled it in and out of the shop and loaded/unloaded on a trailer a few times and it does ok in low range but haven't seen if it will up shift yet Thanks in advance Joe |
Maybe you are just not waiting long enough for the converter to fill back up after sitting.
They can have a drain down problem and they slip terribly after sitting for a few days. Put it in gear and let it idle for 30 seconds or so and see if it pulls like it should. |
I had 97 dodge tranny serviced and after getting home I noticed fluid pouring from pan--I tighten but most of fluid escaped anyway in 20 miles--what can I expect--damage,no damage, shoot the tech bastard?
Thanks folks geb |
