Problems?????

OK my 05 is really acting up if you rev er up in park or neutral say to 2200 rpm the motor just hangs there banging out I can take my foot off the throttle and it will just sit on 2200-2000 rpm for ever until i pull it ino gear or turn the truck off????? It sounds like a JAP ROD running on the rev limiter popping and missing. The reason I noticed this is the truck has started idleing really rough and I tried patting the throttle to clear it up like an old gasser. The real issue is that the truck has started pinging really bad while exelerating. It sounds like an old gasser that the timming is way too far advanced.... Any ideas I went threw the rokers already and the lash was pretty good. I found a thread about the A/C wires rubbing and causing the motor to run bad. but my wires looked good.It really sounds like detonation.ANY IDEAS PLEASE?????

Maybe you have an injector or two hanging up?

I agree with the injector problem. Having the dealer to a cylinder cutout test when the truck is idling poorly.

fca

I did some looken around and found out what the fca is I just took it off and shook it as I read. It did not rattle until the spring and little round thing popped out then it rattled. I sprayed some good stuff in it and put her back on the ole truck still will hang at 2200 rpm until I turn it off.. Dont know if the problem is the fca or not.......still pings like crazy but I did not notice the ruff idel though

sounds like injectors, but easy enough to pull the cascade valve on the cp3 and clean it as well, like you did with the fca. Its right there next to it , 15 mm if i remeber right. Its free and will take 10 min or less, try that.

ok I will try that. Man I wish it would just throw a code so I could figure it out. I know on a gasser the pinging will burn valves. It probably aint good on a cummins eather

Might remove the fuel filter and run some stright inj. cleaner through it, fill with B-12 or such return the lid and crack truck. Rev it some it will run for a minute or so on this and smoke pretty good if thiers lots of carbon built up on the pistons. Try this a few times, see if it dont help. Its got me out of prob.'s many times on all kinds of diesel engines over the years. If thier worn dont expt. nothing but if thier dirty, thiers a great chance it will fix you right up!
