O'Reilly / Checker ATF +4

Stopped by my local Checker Auto last night and noticed they are now carrying O'Reilly branded oils, specifically ATF+4 transmission oil....

a buck cheaper per quart than the valvoline too.. (~$4.50 ea)

states on the label meets Chrysler specs..

Anyone have opinions on this?

If it meets ATF +4 specs I don't see why it wouldn't work fine.

Mopar ATF+4 can be had at Wal Mart for less than $5 per quart.

They don't carry it at mine anymore.

I've found recently that some stores in affluent areas do not stock 15W-40 motor oil or oil filters for diesels. I'm sure it's a function of volume, but it sure sucks.

Fortunately my ghetto wal mart at Tatum and Bell still has ammo and stuff for diesels.

My transmission guy says to stick with Mopar ATF+4. He's not a fan of the Valvoline or other off brands of ATF+4. He has seen and has even demostrated to me how the Mopar seems to stick better to gears and bearings.

Are you using ATF+4? The Kondolays told me to run only mercon/dex III in my DTT.

Really????? I don't know about that. Mercon/Dexron III is NOT a synthetic blend. 47re's and 48re's require that synthetic blend for the seals and bearings. To each your your own I guess........

I mean don't get me wrong, I do use Mercon/Dexron III............................................... ....... In my transfercase..................

Same as I was told I should use in a modded tranny. but not a stock tranny.

Yep, i've always run only Mopar ATF+4....before and after having it built. 139K on it now....shifts great. It was built at 88K by an authorized DTT builder. He put ATF +4 in it.

My local Wally world did not have any Mopar in stock when I changed my fluid 15K ago. I ended up using Pennzoil ATF + 4 and everything is running fine. Shift & Temps running the same as the Mopar fluid it replaced. Like Texas said, the fluid must meet the requirements to be labeled ATF + 4, so I am not overly concerned. I have not seen threads on transmissions going out due to non Mopar ATF use.
