Well it's a Dodge part, why can't you return a Dodge part of it doesn't fit?

Besides, my neighbor is a professional aluminum welder. I could have it modified quite easily.

Wound up shimming the carrier and calling it a day after getting lost at about the 141st reply. I could swear we settled on part 52123161-AB for the '06 auto in that thread, but at >$400 and "no return if no fit," I passed. So, if you buy that $205 shaft, let us know if it fits.
The shaft I came up with is 52123122AA. For a 2006 auto anyway.

I replaced the u joints on my 03 last year and I don't remember there being any carrier bearing down there. I just took out the four bolts and pulled the other end out of the transfer case and i'm 95% sure its the factory steel drive shaft. Did the 03's not get carrier bearings on them?

It's only the long wheel base trucks that have a two piece shaft. The short bed or regular cab trucks both already have a single piece shaft. I think the only difference is that it's steel on the older trucks and aluminum on the new ones.

Well, when you take delivery and install it, let me know. I'll be buying the same thing. I still get a slight shudder even with the carrier optimally shimmed, so a one piece shaft is my next purchase.

As far as Dodge Parts not accepting a return on what I think is an off the shelf item, they said it's not listed for my vehicle, so I take my own chances. On one hand, I can understand their policy as I imagine there's a bunch of folks trying to do some nutty things with their trucks and they would have a bunch of parts being returned when the "experiment" doesn't work. On the other hand, if I dutifully keep the part in new condition and I pay my own shipping back, why not accept the return of an off the shelf part? I suppose that just increases their operating costs. It's all about the $$$ isn't it?

As far as I know, I'm not getting one. If my u-joints go out again soon I will. And I sure won't be paying $575 for one.

What about for a 2003 QC, long bed, 4x4 auto? Will the 6061 aluminum fit? I'll spend $500 for one that fits and solves the vibration issue.

Check with the fellow I gave the link to, I'm SURE he can fix you up with the right shaft, he has sold quite a few of them. Go to his site, hit the contact button, tell him what you need, he is prompt and timely, nice to deal with.

I am VERY PLEASED with my one piece, worth every penny just to get rid of the vibrations and the center carrier bearing issues.

1 piece aluminum shaft

Well I bought that one and it does not look like the photos of a long tapered shaft like the one on doghousediesel.com.

More info tomorrow.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was only talking about 4wd trucks, I have no experience with the 2wd versions. It's good to know that your's has a two piece though, could you measure the length on it so we can get the list more complete?
