One more SRW to DRW tread.
 

Hi,

I`m a new member from Norway.

Been searching diffrent forums for info in SRW to DRW builds, but I cant find anyone who know if the rear hubs will fit from DRW to a SRW aksel.
It`s not possible to get a DRW aksel here in Norway, and shipping a complete aksel from US would cost alot.
So if I could just get the hubs and the driveshafts from a DRW then it would save me alot of $ in shipping costs.

So is there anyone who knows for sure that the aksel housing are diffrent?

We call it an axle, not an aksel. Just not to confuse the fellas here, as I was a moment ago.

What year truck you working on? What series axle? Dana 80?

truck is an 2004, 3500 so it is an Dana 80 I guess

It's not that simple to just swap hubs. A dually axle is much wider than a single wheel. So let's just say you did swap hubs now when you went to install your inside tire on the new hub your tire is going to hit your leaf spring before it seated on the new hub.

This is what I`m asking. Will the hubs from a DRW fit on a SRW axsel and will u get the right offset.
I`m saking if anyone knows this, not what anyone thinking. I need to know. lol

No you will not have the right offset. It will not work unless you want to narrow your trucks frame to fit your narrow single wheel axle.

They do make spacers to install on your single wheel axle. It does not give you a higher weight rating with them but it does give the better stability of having duals. I have seen them on trucks but I personally would not use them.

So the axel housing is wider on the DRW axel then.

Yes a dually axle housing is much wider than a single wheel.

2002 was the last model year to use Dana axles. Your 2004 should have AAM axles.

Yes you are right, always tought it was the same.. I have the 11.5" AAM.

But I guess it dont change the the hub problem anyway.

A 2004 Dodge 3500 would have originally have had a AAM 11.5inch rear axle.

The SRW and DRW axle housings and hubs are different.
Many parts are identical like the differential parts and brake parts.

I have found the part nr for the DRW axel housing and the SRW axel and the DRW is about 100mm wider..

So I will need to get a new axel I guess.

Do you really need the DRW in the first place? Is there a weight issue over there? I don't know the laws there but if you need more payload, can you get a GVM increase with say airbags and higher rated tyres on the SRW? I have read that the SRW is better in snow too.

I don`t have too, I just want to.
Doing a full rebuild of the truck, just love the 10 lug wheels.
