OE Batteries gave up the Ghost

2007, 5.9, 2500. Well, after almost 5 years and 119K miles of cold winters and hot summers the OE batteries gave out. The truck started really hard and threw a code of 2209. Happened once before and turned out one of the connections was loose. So I cleaned the posts and the trck still started real hard. Changed them out and I'm good to go. Knock on wood, other than poor fuel mileage this truck has been super reliable. kAnyone else get to go that long on OE batteries?

Bought my truck in '06 with 47k miles and now have 200k miles and haven't changed the batteries...pretty sure they're still OE batteries.

my 06 (09/2005 build) was on the OE batteries until March 2011. 5.5 years and they still seemed fine, but my dad was trading in his F-250 with a 6 month old pair of the Diehard P1 batteries. I swapped my OE batteries into the F-250 and took the new ones, both trucks use group 65. I did notice a significant increase in the speed of the starter motor when cranking with the new P1's.

Still have OEM's that will be 7 years old in 3-4 months. I'm getting the same hard starting. It's still pulling like mule and MPG is same so I was also leaning in the same direction.
Funny I read in another forum a 05 PSD owner was on his 4th set. Got to love those 6 doh's.

My OEM batteries started going away about a year ago in my 2004.5. I bought a pair of Sears Platinum DieHards and couldn't be happier! All indications show that they are relabeled and molded in a different color Odyssey batteries which have an excellent reputation. Less expensive too!

76000+ and 6yrs on my OEM. They are filthy at the posts and I keep forgetting to clean them. One of these days I'll remember.

I probably should not have said that. Hopefully it did not hear that.

good luck with those long life batteries.

just remember, changing these batteries are not as easy as on a old chevy pickup.

the batteries on my 05 model were still starting the truck fine, but with last winter coming on, i did not want to have them go out in the back side of nowhere,

that is my normal luck,

I when with the duralast batteries from autozone, around $139 each, but they have about 100cca ea more power.

used old batteries for my boat trolling motor,
about 1 month later, when I charged them up, one would not take charge, had to scrap it. So they were at there life cycle end.

Other than there being two of them, I don't see how changing the batteries on these trucks is at all difficult. The Group 65 may be heavier than smaller batteries, but it is still simple. I swapped mine out in less than 10 minutes in the driveway.

I agree with changing parts out preemptively to avoid getting stuck somewhere. I just put new tires on the wife's car before the Arizona summer heat, the old ones had 5/32" left and were probably still very serviceable.

Picked up 2 Sears Platinums yesterday @ $153.99 ea. Online sale only. My OEM's are 5.5 yrs old now and working fine but at that price I had to jump on it. That's exchange price. I'll go to my buddy's shop and swap them out, keeping the OEM's and exchanging some dead ones back to Sears.

OEM battery life

When I traded my 2001.5 truck last summer for my 2004.5 both had the original batteries and were doing fine. This spring however after setting for nearly two months without a charger hooked up the 2004.5 was stone dead. I guess eight years ain't bad though. I'm hoping the new Interstates will do as well but I doubt it.

I got almost 6 years and about 92K out my originals.

Funny thing was it was doing just fine and I hadn't even thought about how old the batteries were. Then a guy at work asked me how long my OEM batteries lasted and the next week it started cranking slow... I told him he owed me for a pair of batteries.
