is this normal???

So heres my truck a 06 2500 4x4 CUMMINS. Twice now after I start the truck there is a LOUD air release sound. Best thing I can compare it to is when I drain the air tanks on my mixer at work. Its only a short burst and then its gone. And it only did it when it sat for a day or so.And the truck runs great. Any ideas. Thanks

Do you have the A/C on when this happens. Sounds like the high pressure valve on the compressor is opening up. Do you get a mist coming out of the right front of the truck? You may need the new orifice tube line that has the larger orifice. Take it in for service.

Awww man, that's the trouble then.

Just kidding.

Any chance your defroster (or A/C) is on? Mine is noisy (vacuum/flapping sound) every once in a while, doesn't' sound like a rush of air though.

I'd have it looked at the dealership

the orifice line is the expansion device that causes the refrigerant to change states from a liquid to a gas, thus, absorbing heat.

I found this site and started reading and learning what I can. So I would assume it would be on the window sticker and theres nothing about it.

is it an auto, and when you are decelerating without touching the brakes, does the truck slow down faster that normal? look under the hood, passenger side, on the outlet of the turbo(since you are a new diesel guy, it is the rusty side ) is there a large canister with an arm and spring mounted really close to the firewall? if so, e-brake. does it say jacobs near the Ctd plaque?

yes it is an automatic and no brake just turbo into the exhaust. I will probably have the "Dealer" check it out. I was just seeing if it was a normal diesel thing or what. I know the charging jumping up and down freaked me out to but then i read it is perfectly normal.

Don't think its normal. I wonder if the turbo sticking, not spoolling would cause this... or did someone perhaps put a potatoe in the exhaust pipe?

My 05 does the same thing.... I'll start it up, drive 5 foot and a puff of smoke from under the front right wheel well, along with a small pop. Doesn't happen every day, but I notice it from time to time.
