no muffler

Does anyone know if taking off the muffler will help a 03 2500
HO cummins run any better.

thanx

Re:no muffler

Taking off the muffler on anything will help it run better. If I were you I would take everything off from the turbo back.Just run straight pipe. It will make it sound quite nice. ;D

Re:no muffler

Yes, the noticeable difference is the turbo comes on line quicker (cuts turbo lag noticeably while towing) and sounds like a big rig ;D sweet! It is fairly LOUD outside however but it is really fun to roll down the windows under an overpass or bridge while accelerating! While you are at it, extend the tip on the tailpipe too since this stops the buildup of soot on the right rear quarter panel especially noticeable on my dually!

Re:no muffler

First its Cummins, not Cummings. And yes eliminating the backpressure in any turbo engine helps things along. I just installed an Expandit 5" system with no muffler and it sounds quite nice and helps a lot on the middle to upper end of engine rpm ;D. It is really loud only when towing or under hard acceleration .
Jeff
(the smile factor is BACK)

Re:no muffler

Does any manufacturer make a replacement pipe for where the current muffler is?

I checked mine out. There is a clamp on either end of the muffler. it is almost as if you are to remove the muffler and put in a straight pipe. ;D

Just wondering where to get some 4"d stainless pipe with flared ends to fit or what others are doing.

Re:no muffler

Only had mine about 20 hours now and allready planning on loosing the muffler for less turbo lag...On my '97 I did some measuring and just went down the local muffler shop and had them make me a pipe - worked great - I plan on doing it again.

Re:no muffler

Cut it out and you'll regret it > I had mine straight piped with my stock system and it sounded like a ricer. Not cool. So the next day I went with a Allied 4" Turbo Back and it sounds way better than the stock straight pipe. Just think I'm only 23 and It was too loud. I can't speak for a 5" system however. Never heard a new ISBE yet.

Re:no muffler

So taking the muffler out and putting a pipe where the muffler was makes it sound like a ricer? How is that any different from the system you put on SilverRam03? I'm just curious? Now if you cut the pipe from the muffler and did'nt replace any pipes I could see the sound being different but if you put a "straight pipe" in than it should sound totally different from the first case.

I have a neighbor with a F350 powerchoke he has his straight piped with 4 inch and man does it sound awsome. I can hear his turbo spooling up through the tail pipe. It almost sounds like its a gasser when you press the go pedal.

TON4FUN,
Note: Allied Sysyem includes straight thru. muffler. Like I said, I don't advise it (straight pipe). But if you have the itch to hear a ISBE sound riced up go for it. Yours however might sound different with it being an Auto.

Re:no muffler

I just ordered the Aeroturbine......whatever muffler. Was inexpensive. Hope it sounds ok. Will have it on in about 2 weeks. Other forums have postings about this....say it sounds good and deep, but loud....we shall see...... ???
