New update tie rod, drag link, and pitman arm going on tmro

After pullin out all my hair trying to find out why my truck wants to zig-zag, shimmy, shake, wander, shudder and **** near death wobble.... I broke down and shelled out close to 5 bills on the updated DC parts. Didnt get the shock absorber due to the Defiant dual stabilizer set up on hand( had to get new Defiant stab brackets to fit new). The set up looks stout and I pray to the Diesel Dude in the Sky that this ends my teeth chatterin ride I have had for the last month. And here I thought it was the new powder coat on the rims!!

I'll post comparison pics if I can get the two set ups side by side or just on the truck. The new drag link looks to be sleeved to take some of the shudder causin flex out of the stock set up. We will see.

pics added for those who look

The "retrofit" that should be a recall is a boat load beefier than the original. I put it all in and did a rough alignment today hope i dont go through a set of new tires on way to Les Schwab tomorrow.

Have you got it in yet? How is it doing? Looks quite a bit beefier!

edd,

Glad you made the leap from the "rubber band" linkage world! Now look into track bar bushings and adjusting the steering box. You'll be fine.

If you want an example, come on down to Denair and drive mine. Better than new and over 200,000 miles.

..... FML! All the new stuff went on just fine...no bloody knuckles! but the bad part is that I had only fixed half the problem. just as i was thinkin how lucky i was to get 80k on stock BJs...sure as shizer, my driver side has about 1/8" of play in it and the passenger is moving as well. Les Schwab wanted $850 for the MOOG crap installed....uh, not after i check DTR for the reviews! so i am looking in to shellin out big coin for the Carli or Dynatracs, unless someone can talk me out of it.?????

have the Carli track bar and its not moving. whats the gearbox adjustment you talk of???

also, does anyone know what a good ball joint press/separator set up is, and how much??

thanks for the replies guys, i was getting tired of talkin to myself

Tireclub sells McQuay-Norris and XRF ball joints also. Labor shouldn't be so bad with your hubs.

I can certainly understand going to a stronger setup. Took my truck in for a trans service and then received a phone call telling me they were going to replace the majority of my searing system do to this recall... http://www.dodge.com/universal/webse...ce/pdf/H46.pdf

Whats the report on the McQuay Norris and XRF's? what about price difference? guarantees? I really dont want to mess with the whole front end of the truck until i save up for the Carli front control arms and i dont see that being a headache. The hub conversion bought me some piece of mind and i would like to get that from a set of ball joints as well.

I did find out that the drag link and tie rod i had on my truck was a lifetime replacement warranty from Advance Auto. I will go and exchange it and try to sell them to recover some cash.

i tried so hard to get the dealer to get me in on that recall but i didnt have the dealer installed mistakes that they were looking for. He did admire my set up tho....after laughing and say,"yeah there isnt much left dodge in here". I asked if i can get a kick back for fixing all the design flaws from the factory....

edd,

I wrote a post on adjusting the steering gear. Can't remember where it is, but I bet you can find it. Easy to do and it does help.

The Dynatrac joints work very well.
