New Reverse Honk

That other reverse honk thread is so big I wanted to present another idea/question. How about wiring the horn directly to the horn button bypassing everything else? Is that possible? That way the only way to get the horn to honk is to push the horn button/pad.

I have not kept up much on this subject about the horn back up feature but have received serveral notice's from Dodge to come in and they would install it. I for one don't want it myself. My question is here in about 6000 miles I was going to have the transmission serviced at the dealership and was wondering if they might go ahead and try to install the horn feature without me not knowing about it. Is there some sort of release or wavier you have to sign if you do not won't this feature.

budbon: no hijacking of thread intended just related to your subject.

My truck was at the dealership and they didn't install the reverse honk. I think as long as you aren't getting an ecu re-flash you're ok.

When mine was in for tranny service and a re-flash the service person asked if I wanted them to do it and I said no.

Ok thanks I just remember reading some post in the past were someone took their truck in for some problem and they ended up flashing the computer when they didn't want it flashed. You know playing the "dumb act" with you saying well it's required that you get this. I'll bet they sent me at least four different notices on the horn back-up TSB.

I did not want the reverse horn honk flashed on my truck. I even signed a wavier at the dealers and explained to the service writer that I did not want it. I had taken my truck in on another service issue. They still did it. No going back (pun) now.

I guess you folks are missing the point. I don't want to know if you did or did not get the flash. I guess this is for those who did. Is there a way to wire the horn to horn button directly? That way it does not go thru the computer but directly to the horn buttom/pad on the steering wheel.

im not sure there is, so many things on modern vehicles go thru a BCM, body control module. Not sure about the Cummins electronics, but on a Cat, the ECM on the engine only controls the engine There is a seperate ECM/ECU/BCM/BCU for the vehicles' functions such as voltage output to interior and exterior lighting, transmission control, horns, back-up horns...etc..
I have to take my truck in for a re-flash due to the interior light timer not functioning properly. I may be wrong, but I don't think that the Cummins ECM controls that, hence, the BCM...
Makes me want to talk to the tech next week at the dealership and see if I can get myself some clarification on all this.

I've a close friend that's a sevrice manager at a Dodge dealership. He's tried to turn my off but the computer will not allow it to be disabled. It really sucks when hooking up a trailer by myself.

budbon: In Utah, I was listening to some guys talking about the reverse honk feature. I wasn’t paying good attention since mine doesn’t have it but one of the guys had apparently done something like what you are talking about and wound up not being able to lock his doors with his keyless remote and some other weird problems. It didn’t make sense to me and I wasn’t paying good attention but it sounded like he fried something. I know, didn’t help answer your question at all.
