New Injectors
 

I got my injectors changed this week.

I had 403,659 on the originals. Just noticed a small miss recently.

WOW, did you use any fuel additive or anything else?

Very little. In fact, I only run the white powerserve when it gets really cold.

Otherwise, just straight diesel out of the pump.

Who did you purchase your new ones from? My 04.5 is hitting the 400k miles on the originals as well.I am thinking about a new set now instead of in the middle of January.Mine runs well,but may do it as a maint thing.I have called around.When I ask if the injector is new,I get the"Well,it is a fresh reman" I want 100% new,not rebuilt injectors.I wasnt educated enough to ask the right questions when I spoke to Industrial Inj.I may call them back again.

Most of the injectors are normally remans. I got lucky and mine were new ones.

Whats the name of the "Small Place"?

I have a "reman" fear.Just rebuilt means it was just worn out shortly before.

I'm curious if you upgraded your fuel filtering or just a standard 5-7 mic.

It seems the trucks that get lots of miles (400k on an 07) run smoother.

Not scientific,but my take on it.Most of these late models like mine with 3-400K miles are working hotshot trucks.They tow a lot vs. going to town ect and towing a camper a couple times/yr.Towing makes heat in the engine and the weight/load keeps the injector running at higher rail pressure levels than running unloaded/short trips( I think it keeps injectors clean).Mine should hit 400k miles in the next week or two.Original injectors,cp3 and alternator.Maint records say two wheel bearings,lift pump and a headlight switch have been replaced.This guy was very good about maint.Just stock fuel filters.Although it did have a Fram(gasp)oil filter when I got it.Rotella T since day one and he insisted never to use injector cleaner or oil additives.

Fram filter will kill your engine.I have personally seen two second gens with siezed piston on the rod (and the corresponding cyl wall carnage) from plugged oil sqirters from Fram filters disentegrating in the oil circuit.

It makes you wonder about this whole filtration mantra. If filtration is so key to making injectors last, why wouldn't you have had problems many miles (and gallons) ago? High milers also use a variety of fuel qualities from many sources where I use a single source from a fairly new station.

Not that better filterng is a bad idea, it just seems like the approach may be wrong. What other factor(s) are at play and how would you simulate or counteract them?

It would appear that "work" may be the key, are these trucks (Dodge, GM and Ford) just poor daily drivers? How much wok is enough and how much DD is too much?

I've had no troubles in 100k miles and only 10% or so has been work, 10k or more behind it, and a recent overload of about 16000 for 2 hours. I try to load it up every month or so but can't always do that and the rest is very easy going DD at 50-60 MPH for a 25 mile trip, cool down, then return. I also run 315-70's so my running RPM is quite low. It gets a pretty good workout each fall pulling horses for hunting season.

Still pondering this one.

maybe someone with a rail pressure gauge could chime in.I would assume that rail pressures at say 65 mph with a good load would be much higher than running around town unloaded.

Is that 400k+ miles on your 2007? :o
