Dang I think 75% of us has been cheated by the great Chrysler. I dont feel quite as bad as I did. What am I saying. Dang right I feel bad and am still mad and everytime I see a dodge commercial on tv it makes me sick. My 07 was finiaced through a different company. I want as least to do with Chrysler as I can. There 1 800 # is a piece of crap. I am thinking on trying small claims court on the dealer that cheated me. I think its worth a shot.

Like so many things, we have to try to preserve what is good about something without bringing in all that's bad.

All that to preface my comments on the auto industry. Why do dealers cheat and corporations cut costs? Why are people getting screwed out of warrantees and such? BECAUSE THEY CAN-- plain and simple.

Just look at this thread. We have people posting about how a truck would have taken too long to Lemon Law, so a person "HAD" to go buy a new truck. Think about it. You are in essence saying that "This company made a product that didn't perform, and circumstances FORCED me to reward them by buying a new truck from them."

That, my friends, is INSANITY. Look, you will ALWAYS get more of what you reward and less of what you punish. It's a universal truth of human life.

So the auto industry feels no need to improve their customer service, because millions of people are lined up at the dealer's door for the latest "gottahavit."

Why can't a person buy a 2004 or 2005 model when a new vehicle doesn't perform properly? Why give the manufacturer MORE money?

The auto industry thrives, and indeed, exists because we are intoxicated with all things new, and new car smell (as nasty as it is these days) is still a potent drug.

What would happen if tomorrow every American decided to only buy a car every 5 years or 10 years? What if most of the vehicles sold in the US were only to replace something lost in a wreck? I suspect that we'd be much more selective in what we bought, and hence I think competition would increase.

My truck lost a VP at only 40K miles. Warranty covered it, along with a fried ECM amd a bad backing-light switch. Would I have traded my truck for a new one if I didn't get coverage? If Dodge screwed me and gave me the run around, I can all but guarantee I would NOT buy a new truck from them. I would have bought a GM. Or a Toyota. Heck, I might have traded it in on a Honda Civic! Maybe a Titan or Tundra?

The point is that like many conditions of life, we somewhat bring this on ourselves. When we let a company get away with shady dealings, we end up complicit in the deal.

As I see it, the automobile industry in America is headed down a path of near self-destruction.

The manufacturers need to wake up and realize that even though they don't OWN the dealers (they are independent franchises), that is THEIR NAME on the sign out front. People rightly or wrongly don't distinguish between a bad Gm dealer and a great GM dealer-- all they know is that "GM screwed me!".

I can guaranfrickintee you that if it was MY company name on the sign making cars, *I* would own that dealer. My company's name is not going to be at risk unless I can do something swiftly and surely about anyone who tarnishes it.

You want to know what's wrong with the American auto industry? Watch "The King of Cars" sometime. The fact that a clown like that can and will prosper tells me that the system that rewards him is VERY VERY broken.

Yes, we as consumers are part of that system, and I suspect that we, too are part of what is broken....

You are absolutely right. But as long as the public is so easily swayed by new flashy things, easily scared by threats of the bogeyman, and powerless when it comes to organizing for a cause that would serve us all, the problem will continue. No one will lift a finger to help someone else, even if it might be them in the same position next.

Clearly, the US auto industry is headed for the cliff. They have set themselves up for a fall and the public is still playing into the same old game.

Is it any wonder that the beat goes on? The fix for some of the problems is beyond the scope of the current national conversation.
