My new tranny cured my edge issues.
 

my old tranny would slip like oil on ice. now that theres no slip i get constant load and my egts are a tad lower. dont ask me how?boost can easily get up to 40 psi now. with slip i could only hit 23 psi.

Aftermarket or stock rebuild?

aftermarket. my tranny shop told me that the stock tranny is only good for a 4 cylinder gas engine not a 610 ft lbs torque diesel. they went aftermarket with triple disc goerend converter and shift kit.

The trans is now loading the engine correctly. More load is more boost instead of blowing thru the TC and defueling.

exactly. i didnt vrealize how much slip there was until i got new tranny.like i said they said the biggest engine shoulod maybe be a 4 cylinder cummins with maybe 180 HP driving the 47 and 48re trannys.our 5.9 without mods is WAY too big for that tranny. dodge engineers need a pay increase and head examined.

That's not really true. These transmissions do pretty well behind a stock engine. Anyone who expects them to hold up with aftermarket mods needs a pay increase and their head examined [duhhh]. Granted, they're sloppy for a stock engine but they get the job done and are pretty reliable behind a stock engine even if you're only putting 50% of the power to the ground.

Thats what i mean . you said it. they only can handle 50% of the engine power the 5.9 makes.before i even did my edge mod i had trany wear. it slipped from the day i bought it. and my mods are nothing. i have 4 " str8 exhaust, willys whistler intake and edge juice that i ONLY ever use on level 1(25 HP) .i do use 2 setting (40HP) when i tow though.

The 48re takes 100% of the 5.9's power, it just only transfer's 50% or so of that to the ground. The transmission itself is fine and reliable, it's the TC that needs to be upgraded.

whatever. thats what im saying. the torque/tranny i talk as a wholke unit even though their not.none the less the stock tranny/torqueconverter is only good for a 4 cylinder diesel cummins.

So if i get good torgue converter how much power would you estimate would hit the ground i have a 07 stock 3500 with a 44' enclosed trailer . I was thinking to stay stock until i get out off warranty.

Darrell, you'd have to ask the transmission company that builds the torque converter. Every type of converter is going to have a different type of "efficiency", which will vary how much power it's transmitting to the wheels.

Goerend is a great company, your tranny shop is right. Something to point out to you guys is that a good aftermarket converter isn't really going to work well unless you buy a valve body that was designed to work with it and your intended purposes. Three times the friction surface with the same valve body isn't going to do you any good. Pressure is a force over an area. Three times the surface area, is going to result in 1/3rd the pressure since the VB is still putting out the same force.
