Miss Not Fixed By Reflash, Fixed!!!
After four unsuccessful visits I sent in the Lemon Card. The regional manager called to set up final service attempt. When I arrived , Chrysler tech. eng. was waiting on me. He drove truck and verified miss. He fed-xed six new injectors overnight and installed next morning. Problem solved! No more miss. After the reflash attempt on third visit, the truck was missing all the time no matter what the temp. Now, the truck has great throttle responce, more power , and the valve clatter has decreased 80%. To early to tell about mileage. Was getting 13.5 50/50 no towing.
BigBlock2Stroke called it right . He said it was injectors. If anyone still has miss after reflash on early 600s , DEMAND that the injectors be checked. Teck. admitted there is some early 600 injector problems. I also found out how much 600 injectors cost, brace yourself.......$800.00 each!!!!!!!!!! How would you like to replace one of these after warrenty runs out . OUCH!! |
WOW, aint cheap. Hey I wonder if they put the 305 injectors in there.
|
Its very possible they did.

Sucks you have to go through all the trouble at the dealer- then finally they have the right person look at it and it is fixed in 2 days! Too bad they can't just cut through the chase. I went through the same situation with my dealer.
Glad to here your truck is fixed. |
So just out of curiosity what is the build date of you truck...mine was built 01/04, more specifically on Jan 24. I don't currently have a miss or hesitation but am just curious about the situation in case it ever happens.
|
Mine was built on 1-4 also. Did not make it to dealer until 1-30. It was held up at rail yard because of the exaust clamp left off in Mexico.
|
I am now getting 16.5 mpg. , 50/50 , no towing , 2100 miles. Can't complain about that. Should only get better as miles increase.
04.5 , 6spd. , 3.73 , 4wd. , Quad.:D |
Very good news, jwtuc. :D I'm happy that they got the problem solved and things are going as they should be. May you have a long and happy relationship with your Cummins 600. :D
$800.00 injectors!!!:o I wonder what that's going to do for aftermarket injector prices. And I thought the PSD injectors were spendy.[yuk] |
I have a couple of critical questions:
Is the reflash covered under warranty? If not, what is the cost? How is the EXACT build date determined (mine is 01/04)? Is it necessary to be experiencing a problem before the dealer will perform the reflash? What is the build date of the machines with the "injector problem", where injector replacement is indicated? If I could benefit from new injectors, I'll take 'em. Thanks. |
Thr reflash is covered under warranty and yes if yours was built in January you are eligible for the reflash. The reflash is for a hesitation and stumble on acceleration. If your 600 is missing you will probably need the injectors also.

Today, I had the dealer install TSB#18-007-04, TSB#18-007-03, TSB#18-004-04. Took about an hour, and was warrantied.
Early impression is much better throttle response, more power, much less clatter, it seems like it shifts better. Too early to say definitively about MPG, but I would hazard a guess that it will much improve. It just feels and sounds like it's running more efficiently. |
Is there any way to tell if the dealer did the reflash?
I requested it be reflash before pickup, but they could not produce a work order to confirm it was completed. The best I got was "your all set". Where can I get a copy of these TSB#18-007-04, TSB#18-007-03, TSB#18-004-04? My truck does have the pinging. From what I read I guess this is normal, but it is some what distrubing. It seems to have a very slight hesitation at ~2200 rpm's, but it also shifts around there. Can't tell if its the engine or just the trans shifting. David |
The dealer is required BY LAW to place an "Authorized Modification Label" inside the engine compartment, stating the 1. Engine Control Module Used, 2. Change Authority: TSB xx-xxx-xx, 3. Dealer Code: xxxxx, 4. Date: xx-xx-xx.
I found mine on the radiator housing, in plain view. It wasn't there before. Also, the job description is included on the work order or Repair Invoice. Finally, I can tell it was done by the obvious increase in performance. Go to the Service department of your dealer, ask him to print up the TSB's for you. The TSB's are on their TechConnect computer service network. My service tech pulled them ALL up (as pertaining to my vehicle) in about 30 seconds, and printed them out for me. Simple as that. There were three TSB's related to 'performance'. Since we weren't sure which of them to install, he did ALL of them. |
Update - - - - In order to verify performance improvement from re-flash, I checked the MPG at the same stretch of highway where I checked it last week.
Last week (prior to re-flash) my MPG on this same stretch was 16.7. Today (after re-flash) my MPG (same stretch) was 20.1. Wednesday I'm leaving for Las Vegas. Will post numbers upon return. |
rouxsterre,
Thanks for info, just what I looking for. I did check this weekend and could not find any indication of the flash (ie a label). I'll go to the dealer (a different one) and get the TSB's print and ask them to check my truck to confirm is has the latest flash. Thanks, David |
