Max Tire Size

I know I've seen this answered before but for the life of me I can't find it...What is the largest tire size for a stock 2500 4wd ? The stocks are 265/70-17, If I remember I've seen posts that say you can go to a 285 without problems (rubbing etc) but I not sure which way to go. I'd like a slightly larger tire to fill the wheel wells better but don't want to mod anything and I certainly don't want the tires contacting the vehicle. So my other questions I hoping you folks can enlighten me on are; do I get 285's? If so do I get 285/70's or 285/75's, what would the differences be? what are the pros and cons (fuel economy? getting the speedo changed...etc) to going to the 285's over stock...If any? Advice of any kind is appreciated.

BTW I've pretty much already decided on the Cooper AT3 (for what that's worth...Opinions there?)

I've run 285/70 - and with my 4:10 gears was very good for towing. Right now I have BFG 305/70 on stock wheels and have no issues. I have heard that some have run tires up to 35" without a lift but I wouldn't do it. I think they is a pick in my gallery.

315/70/17 will fit fine and clear even better with leveling kit.

I run 285/70/17 Cooper ATP and like the performance and look. I don't notice a difference when towing, but did lose maybe .5 mpg. I have a Smarty Jr. so is easy to adjust speedo for tire size.
