I bought a 2004.5 (600) 4x4 this summer and my mileage has been about 12-13 city and varies on the hwy between 15 and 17, but with a mix of city and hwy I always average 15 mpg each tank. I was getting 17 average per tank with my 01 4x4 CTD. Since Diesel fuel is now 30-40 cents more per gallon here in Tacoma, the benefit of owning a diesel for economy is all but gone. When I bought my first diesel in 2001, diesel was $1.20 a gal and regular was $1.45, now regular is $1.65 and diesel is $1.95 (which really sucks - paying more for diesel) . I like the truck but with 15MPG and 25% higher fuel costs, I think the appeal of the diesel here will start to disappear.

Still worth owning a desiel even iff it does not figure out finacially. Much more fun to drive, lasts way longer, and keeps resale value much better.

At first i got low mpg but it seemed to get better after a 4 hr drive at 80 down to San Antonio in june. I am now getting 17-18 in town. I check my mpg at every fillup...and i dot trust the overhead as fact.

I just turned 10k and from about 5K on I have been seeing 15 city and 19.5 highway and 13 pulling 10,000 pound fifthwheel, the on board computor is off 1 mile to the gallon so I have been hand checking, but I do have that same odd pinging sound every once in awhile during light acel

New 610 (Dec '04 build) mpg

Hi folks,

I'm a diesel newbie and don't have too many miles on my truck since I have had it only week. So with that
in mind, here is my premature and somewhat meaningless report

This last weekend I decided to go for a mini-trip to get some miles on the engine and check mpg. The weather
was mild and not windy. I started with 48 mi. on the odometer of mixed local driving. The trip took me thru
several small towns with stretches in between allowing up to 70mph. Some towns required stopping, others
allowed slowdowns of 45/50 to pass thru. I babied it all the way running mainly 55/65 in the stretches.

According to the overhead my sweet spot was very close to 1700 rpm, I have a NV5600

The trip ended with 295 miles on the tripmeter with the overhead reading was 19.9 and hand calculated
was 20.53.

It runs quiet with no vibrations or howls or drones. I have taken it up past 70 to check that but have not
run it on interstate @ prolonged 70mph yet, that will come soon.

I have noticed a number of previous posts that show similar performance so this is not unheard of.

Hope this input is of some value.

Larry
