"skipping" in driveline 2wd up a steep hill

Just got back from a trip to TN and after a 6 hour drive there, trying to drive up a very steep paved driveway the driveline made a skipping motion the whole way up. No change in rpm, no slip in the trans at all. Felt like a chain skipping on a bike. Drove 6 hours back home with no issues. Serviced the rear end and fluid was good with no issues found. My next guess is a transfer case issue or a sun gear issue in the transmission. Anybody ever dealt with a similar issue on a steep incline? Also have a minor delay from off throttle accelerating til the truck starts moving, leading me more to the transfer case. Any guidance before I tear it apart would be a help. Thanks in advance.

Can you replicate it by powerbraking?

Unable to recreate through power braking the truck. Pulled the rear end apart and looked at the factory gear locker. From what I cam see no signs or issues found in the rear. Replaced the fluid while I was there. Was able to get a similar skipping feel when in 4lo on wet grass. Going to drain. The transfer case next and look at the fluid.

I would guess the chain and or sprockets are worn in the transfer case.
