letting off to shift

lately it seems that i have to let off so my trans will shift, otherwise it revs way up, not sure the exact RPM since my tach has a mind of its own. also, if i floor it in second it will rev waaaay up then slowly the trans will grab then i will get moving. seems like it might be slipping but not to bad yet. what does everyone think it could be? i plan on eventually getting a goerend trans, but need to sell alot of stuff i have sitting around from my old superduty.

You have checked for low fluid? Last service done? Does it do it with the pacbrake turned on/off?

If the tach is not working correctly that could be all your problems, or, it could be in the trans. Gov pressure pieces, band, etc. Need to fix the tach first then see what happens.

it does it all the time, doesnt matter if the exhaust brake is on or off. the fluid level is fine, replaced the trans filter and fluid last april i believe. no other service to the trans since the local dealers say their is no servicing the trans.

sounds like the clutches are shot. have you taken it to a repair shop? maybe they can diagnose your problem. You could also try looking in your manual.

You should get the tach looked at first like no_6_oh_no said. There is a TSB; ( I don't remember the #); that is to correct that. Improper tach signal can cause all sorts of grief.

i plan on getting the tach looked at soon, but need to wait until thier is a chance of no snow since i need the truck to plow with.
thanks for all the help, hopefully the dealer will be able to help me out. i know that the trans has issues but also realize that the dealers around here leave alot to be desired.

Hmmmm, have you been watching transmission temps whilst plowing? Maybe you cooked it. How's the transmission oil smell?

trans temp has not gotten about about 220 or so, i did see 250+, but that was when we were going thru denver and i had to stop and could not leave the truck in neutral. so no fluid movement at all.
when i do plow if the temp gets much about 220 i put it in 4 low. trans oil is fine, not burnt at all.
