Re:Installing TracRite in the front end?

Unless you plan on doing some serious continous offroading this is not a good idea. With a locker LSD in the back and one in the front the possibilty of power switching diagonally on ice or extremely slick sufaces can cause an automatic 180 degree end swap in the vehicle. This will be signifigantly reduced if the rear has a Detroit or Air locker but is dangerous as it reduces front end controlabilty on highways that others may be on at the same time. I would suggest Air Locker in the front with same in the back, thatway on public roadways you will have proper driving control. PK

Re:Installing TracRite in the front end?

the only experiance I can relate is second hand...
My brother decided to put a factory limited slip front and back in his ford f150 (back when they had free wheel hubs) Whenever he locked the hubs, steering became noticably "stiff" and his turning radius decreased.
considering there are no free wheel hubs, the draw backs may out weigh the benefits.

I have to disagree. I had an F-150 with factory limited slips front and rear and loved it. While I agree that front and rear lockers would be more excitement than most people would want, the Trac Rite is not a locker, it's a limited slip - big difference. Also, any free wheeling front hub 4 x 4 will have a noticeably decreased turning radius after you lock the hubs, limited slip or not. If you were inclined to do a lot of hard core off roading, I would say it is worth it. I, on the other hand am far too big of a pansy to take a 40K truck out to bounce around in the rocks. My hat is off to any of you with the ***** to do it.

My .02
