Ignition switch problem

Three times over the past month my ignition / key switch has failed to work. When I turn the key to start the truck (06 Mega Cab 2500 auto), the truck does nothing at all. It doesn't turn over, no clicking noise, just dead silence. I have been able to get it to work by cycling the key back and forth about 20 times and then suddenly it will work.
Do I have a bad key switch, is there something electronic in the key....what could be the problem? Do I need to replace the ignition switch ? The truck has 44k on it, so it is off warranty.

Hi
There is a anti theft collar around the ignition. The key has a electronic chip in it.This chip matches the collar. You might be having problems with that.

Check the wire for the trigger on the starter solenoid. I can get chaffed on the motor mount braket. Crawl under your truck and take a look. It is a yellow/ Blue strip wire. May or may not be your issue.

Have fixed a few trucks with that type of problem by replacing the switch... not sure what the price damage is, and I dont remember test procedures... If your key wasnt programmed it would start, then shut off in 3 seconds, and on the third start-shut down it will go into lock out.

Thanks for the input. I will check everything and then look into replacing the ignition switch.
