I did it!!
Well, I did it.
About a month and a half ago, I purchased a Jacobs Exhaust Brake for my vehicle. I am on vacation this month and on Wednesday, I jacked up the front end and went to work. Yeah, I know, it took me a little over two days of working on it, but I got that thing installed. Part of the reason it took me so long was that I was working outside and had to dodge the rain showers that kept coming through. Another reason it took me this long is that I am a bit of a perfectionist and didn't want it to look like a mechanic installed it. Unless a person knows what to look for, it doesn't even look like anything was changed in the engine compartment.
I had to rework the wiring a little bit for it. The one wire from the harness and the one wire from the switch were supposed to come together and then go to the ECM, but they didn't seem to be long enough. So I opened the wire loom and removed that wire back to the top of the engine and then ran it down an existing wire harness to the ECM. The wire from the switch, I had to peel back the coating over the four wires to make it long enough to run to the ECM. But I got everything plugged in and IT WORKS!!!!
After getting the batteries back in and hooked up, I just couldn't resist. I just had to fire it up and see if it worked and it worked like advertised. Then, after making a few minor adjustments to the wires this morning, I got the wheel well liners and the tires back on and took it for a ride. WOW. I can't wait till I get a load on this thing and make a run to Eastern Washington, over the pass, to really see what that thing will do for me.
But right now, I am pumped. Sure, it took me almost two and a half days to install it, but I DID IT MYSELF. And it WORKS, just like it is supposed to.
