Not sure how true this is but I've heard you can check it just like the PCV valve on a gasser...shake it and listen for a rattle. If you hear it rattle then your supposedly good to go, but I've also heard that the bolts holding the FCA to the pump have to be replaced once removed. If anyone knows how to do this the right way please correct me.
What is the FCA?
I read on another post about the FCA causing a power loss. Where and what is it?
My 2003 3500 Quad cab dually standard output has a power loss and I am also getting oil out of the breather on top of the valve cover.
Thank You

thats sounds like it could be a bad injector. has the oil level increased. check your oil i have alot of oil and fuel coming out of the vent tube when my injector blew.

The FCA is located on the back of the front cover of the high-pressure injection pump (CP3).
The solenoid is pulse-width modulated by the ECM and meters the amount of fuel that flows into the high-pressure elements inside the CP3.
The solenoid is inactive up to 30 seconds after ignition switch is initially keyed to ON position to allow maximum fuel pressure to the fuel rail during cranking and start up. ECM assumes FCA valve control when CPS signal and rail pressure are within acceptable limits

I bought mine from a kenworth/cummins dealer, you can buy them over the internet for about 100 bucks, I picked up mine for 116 bucks local and the same day. I know I have the part number saved let me check.
The FCA is made by bosch but is repackaged in a cummins box. I cant remember now which one my dealer looked it up under. I cant stress enough how much the FCA helped my truck, it had a lopey idle and surged, I swear when you put this on you will have a new love for your truck. By the way please take off the inner fenderwell when getting to the FCA it will take you less time and lessen the chance of stripping out one of the small hex heads that are pretty tight.......I stripped one and it was a pain.

Rattle test is not always accurate... I had a brand new one sent to me by John at Floor-it last week and it didn't rattle, neither did the first one he sent with my stage 2 pump. This one operates perfectly fine however.
