Question How many miles on Delvac 1 no bypass?

Right now I am using Dino until I hit 20,000 miles on my 600...and Stratopore filters. I am currently changing at the recommended 7500 mile severe schedule. Have no intentions of bypass system on this truck, but would like to go to synthetic. Will I be able to safely run the synthetic oil with stratopore filter for the full 15000 miles even though my truck is in the 7500 mile change category by use? If not, how long? I dont want to use expensive oil if I cant safely go longer on my changes...

Thanks

Matt

Best way to find out is to have it analyzed at 7500. What condition(s) of "severe service" do you meet? There are a lot of folks changing at the severe service interval who don't need to.

Frequent heavy towing, stop and go driving, short trips when I don't reach operating temp, and significant idling. I thought 7500 was the route to take. Currently using Cen-Pe-Co HD15w-40 (CI-4)

Sounds like you made the right call on the severe interval. The Cummins is pretty easy on oil, maybe run an analysis on the Cen-Pe-Co (who makes that??) next time you change it and see what the dino is capable of handling. Then when you switch to synth run it out to the interval suggested by analysis on the dino oil and see how it fares. You might also try switching to the Donaldson ELF filter, it's specifically designed for extended oil change intervals.

I seem to recall that Cummins/Dodge states that although you can synthetic 20k miles you can't use it to extend an oil change interval.

Cen-Pe-Co is Central Petroleum Company..I dunno, I think it comes from PA even, but it's pretty big around here and we have used it for years and years in tractors on the farm and gotten along great. It has been around forever. I suppose it is kind of boutiquey, but the claims on it are good as are the results. If you ever see a tractor pull or something like that on TV you will always see CenPeCo banners and the like. I don't care what Cummins says about using synthetic to extend an interval, if OA suggests it is still okay, then I will keep using it. Cummins is just covering their butts by saying that, and besides, if I go 10,000 rather than 7500 on the synth, how they gonna know? (It can be written in the service book however you want it). Dave can you tell me more about that Donaldson filter.?

Donaldson propaganda here and here. This is the filter you want. Efficiency is 98.7% @ 15 microns, 50% @ 4 microns, which is pretty good for a full flow filter.

I thought stratopore was the best thing since sliced bread?

The ELF is Donaldson's answer to Fleetguard's Stratopore/venturi centrifuge filters for big rigs. They claim to get equal filtering without the flow restriction of the venturi, so it would seem to be better than plain ol' Stratopore.

I can't anwser for Delvac 1 but on AMSOIL with a By-Pass System I currently have 7.5k miles on my oil with the oil analysis stating that I only need to change the oil filter and keep on running it
I figure if I can do this 3 more times before the oil actually needs changeing then I will have recooped my money with NO problem

Is there anyone out there just running a stratopore and changing off the recommendations of oil analysis? If so, what kind of miles are you getting on a change? I am trying to decide what direction to take as I near the point when I can go to synthetic and also as it starts getting COLD! Might also make a difference whether I continue with the statopores or go ELF, is anyone using the Donaldson ELF? Just wondering if anyone could help me out.

Thanks!!

Strjock81, my guess is that you can run 15k on d1, but an analysis would really help. My truck on d1 for 7500 miles, the oil was nearly brand new. Now I have a bypass system and am 10k into this run of d1 and waiting for results. My thoughts are that if you are doing 7500 miles on dino, you can easily do 10k on d1 without even testing. It really has a stout additive package.
