How many injectors?

I bought a used 2003 H.O. 6spd last year, it had 76,000 kms (47,500 miles). It now has 101,700 kms (63,562 miles) and today it just dropped another 2 injectors. So in 16,000 miles it has cooked 3 injectors.

This morning the temperature dropped and it wouldn't start, Daimler chrysler paid the towing to the shop and they found 2 more bad injectors.

Last time it was #1 injector, I'm not sure yet which ones went bad this time but I'll find out.

I don't know how many injectors the last owner had replaced.
The truck is stock with the exeption of the Rokktech sensor and silent might muffler w/4" turbo back exhaust. Not sure if the previous owner had chipped the truck.

It is really a pain in the A$$ when this happens, luckily it hasn't happened when I'm in the backcountry hunting.

How many injectors have you guys gone through?
Are the injectors that they use as replacements a better unit or are they the same old injector that will crap out in time?

Trucks back from the shop, starts WAY better than it ever has. They replaced #2 and #3 injectors.

The dealer said each injector is over $700 cdn, hopefully they don't keep going. Once the warrenty is over that might get a little hard on the wallet

How many injectors has your truck gone through?

Three injectors in over 50000 miles. I don't believe in that over $700 a peice crap you can get all new injectors that are 100 hp for $1200. I think dealers say that crap so you are scared to do any mods!

I have seen them listed for over $550.00 and on the net for $440.00 each in US Dollars. Some years cost more that what I listed.

on my third set in the 03 running a cheaper fuel filter and an aux tank will add more crap thru the injectors causing more wear. as far as a set for 1200 dollars B.S. thats just for tips been theire done that. you can get injectors for around 275 to 350 down here. if you have had all of them changed get an aux fuel filter system and that will keep the fuel cleaner and cause less problems.

Farm Fuel is not the problem! Who ever told you that? I have two buddies that are farmer's and have over 100000 on their trucks with chips and nothing but farm fuel with 100 gallon auxillary tanks tapped into the stock ones and have never had an injector gone bad! I have also seen the tests of "farm fuel" and regual fuel. You'd be surprised at what fifty cents cheaper a gallon can get you!!

Theres no difference in the fuel. My brother hauled it a few years back and delivered to farmers. All he did was add dye if he got a call and had none on board.

Unfiltered fuel from the tanks and corosion might be an issue, not the fuel itself.

I agree 100% with Festus that old fuel tanks and the crap they can have will cause problems and not the fuel. I live in a farm state so i have some ideal about the fuel they use. That and I have a family member who hauls fuel for a living.

I had #1 injector die at 97k miles I think, warrantee item. It didn't leak, just quit. New one does fine at 103 or 4k miles.

Funny how i pullled apart a motor the other day that was run on farm fuel...sprinter motor to be exact same common rail technology and every injector tip was carbon fouled to the point where it would not run.So having seen that farm fuel will never hit my tank but to each is own

I will admit that I don’t know much about the Sprinter or it’s engine. I have talked to people who have gotten a bad case of carbon fouling on their injectors and they used 100% on road diesel. My self I don’t think that is the only reason the Sprinter had such a problem. If the info given to me in the past is correct then part of it is from not working the engine hard and long enough to clean the carbon off the injectors

This is my opinion and I could be wrong!
