How To Break in Engine?

Just got my 600/325 Ram. It is a 2500 Quad Cab, 4X4, NV5600. What is the best way to break the engine in? I though I read somewhere that the engine should be at light load and to vary the engine speed between 1500 to 1800 RPM for the first 100 miles. Is this correct? What after the first 100 miles?

Man, just drive it like you stole it. Preferably with a load on. Otherwise it will be a very long time before your rig is "Broke-In". When I first got my CTD, I took it easy on it. My mileage didn't start improving noticably till I got around 16k on the odometer. You have a medium duty diesel in a light duty truck. There isn't much you can do to hurt the mighty Cummins! Good luck and enjoy your new rig! -Steve

Don't anything for the first 500 seconds
and then do what CTDinMT said "Drive it Like You Stole It"

CONGRATS on the new kid, make sure you don't baby it too much or you may end up sleeping in it vice it sleeping with you

As far a break in, the more times you tow early the better it will break in, just vary the speeds and wipe that off your face

You won't hurt the Cummins but the differential is a whole different story especially if you tow heavy. Follow the owners manual to the letter and I recommend changing out the oil after the first five hundred miles of towing. FWIW

make sure you vary the throttle pos'n through out it's whole range. do not hold the same speed for long time. When you accelerate off the line make sure you DON'T baby it. what you are doing is getting a history for the computer to match your driving habits. make sure you also tow a hole lot of weight early on if thats what you want the truck for.last but not least make sure you follow the owners manaul as to the break in period for the first 500km. like said above its not for the engine it's for the diffs, transmission and transfer case.
if your not smiling it means your not driving your new truck good luck keep us posted
