No, it isn't.

A full synthetic oil starts with a PAO base stock - a manufactured chemical stew. Semi-synthetic oils start with a dino oil, and then are highly modified to meet the specs of a true synthetic. M1 is a semi-synthetic oil.

That's not to say M1 is a bad oil - it's not. It seems to perform well in most situations. Based on UOA, it will not survive long in my Harley.

But if you're paying $8 a qt, you're not getting good value. Royal Puirple is a true PAO based synthetic oil, and costs $9 a qt. That's what I use in my race car and Harley, since they need it. The truck and my wifes car get standard dino oil, and change it once a year.

Not really. CI is still better than CJ. You just can't find CI anymore. To make up the difference, I add two bottles of Comp Cams break in additive with every oil change.

What does the Comp Cam oil do?
I use Deli from WW .
I tried a couple synthetics but the oil analysis never came out good.
I all ways get generally good reports with the Dell.

It adds ZDDP for engine break in. Originally designed for break in of flat tappets and cams. But it helps control wear, and helps prevent glassification of the cylinder walls.

Use whatever's on sale as long as it meets the requirements!
FWIW, my truck burns Rotella, like 2 qts between oil changes. Other brands it doesn't use hardly any.

I've read a lot about oils and I get mine analyzed so I know what the used oil is like.

From what I have found, high priced oils aren't for me. I change my oil every 8,000 miles or so, and I run a good Fleetguard Stratopore filter.

I think the filter is more important than the oil, and changing the oil is cheaper than buying a high priced oil.

Right now I'm running DelVac and paying around $10 a gallon, Stratopores are around $8 each. I think if someone really was concerned (my UOA's show I don't have any problems) that running a good cheap oil and changing a good filter every 5,000 miles would be better than running a super-oil for a longer period and using a cheap filter.

In other words, if you're worried, change the oil and filter for $38 every 5,000 miles instead of using $90 oil and changing every 10,000 miles. It just shows up better on the oil reports...

Good oil and a great oil filter makes sense. The engine turns at low rpm, the major concern is the oil needs to be cleaned more than oil break down

I believe it varies by individual vehicle. Just like I'm sure there's thousands of Rotella users that don't burn oil even though mine does (few years ago anyway, haven't used it since), I have a buddy who's Hemi truck eats Mobil 1. I have the same year/miles Charger Hemi that hasn't used a drop of Mobil 1 in 3k mi since I changed the oil AND I used a lighter weight oil than recommended.

Oil's expensive, get what's reasonable. I cleaned out 3 Oreillys Parts stores last year when they had Valvoline 15-40 for $10/gallon. It goes in the Cummins, 350SBC boat motor and all the other small engines around the house. Can't beat $2.50/qt these days.

If you would have used a good dino oil, you'd have the same mileage AND an extra $10,000 in your bank account.
