gear vendors overdrive is in
GV Modifications
I'm interested in doing the install myself, but I read somewhere that installing a gear vendors on the short bed requires some adjustment to the fuel tank to get it to fit. Anybody got any info?

Negative: All you have to do is shorten the drive-shaft.

Hey Marathon! sorry for not getting back to you but I am on my way back to Canada and I have not been able to check my email. As others have said there is not any conflict with the fuel tank on a short box. just shorten the drive shaft. I believe you will love it when you get it installed I know I would not be without mine. I just read some posts that were made since I made my last one on this thread and I just want to say that Gear vendors do recommend the unit for towing behind both automatic and standard they also recommend for heavy towing with std. transmissions to put the trans in direct (fifth gear) and the GV in Overdrive this will reduce the trans temp by as much as 100 degrees f also sixth gear is the weakest gear in the trans so why not let the Gv do the work. Today I towed from Carson City Nv. to Winnemucca Nv and I was in double OD about 50% of the time. One thing I would recommend is a Pyro because if you are towing heavy even a slight grade if it is long enough will cause the exhaust temp to go high and my engine is not chipped. Double Overdrive is best used for bobtailing down the freeway.

i am averaging about 24-25 miles per gallon now. i was getting 20 usually, but that was at 70 mph, at 75 i was getting about 17.5, so it actually gave me about 6-8 mpg more. but i have 4:10 gears. with the gear vendors locked in i am doing about 1800 rpm at 75. it pulls great expecially with my setup. i nistalled it myself, took about 4 hours to get it in and wired. easy thing to do. had to take the driveline to get it shortened but thats it. simple to do though!

Yeah but you're getting 24-25 mpg on a 2nd gen. I might be wrong but Tony's probably gonna be dissappointed if he expects those kind of #s from a 3rd gen. I'll have mine towards the end of the month and will see. I would like to get 24 mpg but I just dont see it happening. Really the only thing I wanted from this unit was to the lower rpms and over the long term that can't be anything but good for my truck. It will be nice to run 75 mph down the interstate at roughly the same rpms as I'm turning now at about 63 mph or so.
i have a 2004.5 stock CTD and if i can round up enough money i will put one in there too. im getting 18 mpg empty, NOT going by the overhead monitor and if i can get 22-24 withit in there, i will be pleased. either way, lower trans temp, better mieage, and less rpms is all i can ask for. i have 3:73 gears in the 04.5

2006 g56 HERE...
A SOLID 3 MPG on the highway. Won't really help around town. It lets you go 70 MPH If you are in a state with 70 MPH speed limit you will be able to keep up with the 75 MPH flow w/o guzzling fuel.
Towing you have 5th and 5th over... that's a big help. 5th over = 6th.
6th over is amazing empty. You will have a "go fast" truck.
When fuel hits $3 or even $4 shortly the pay back is sooner. At $3 gal it's a 3 year break even for me.
