Gauge Readings Questions...
Gauge Readings Questions...
Finally hooked up my Pyro (post turbo) and trans temp guages....
The trans gauge constantly reads dead on 100 degrees...have not towed yet, but it doesn't seem to matter whether highway at 70+ or city stop to stop...Normal??
They pyro idles at about 400 degrees and rides between 500 and 600 when driving at highway speeds, and about 450 in town....seem ok, I guess...
Interesting thing... I put the trany sensor in the pan, and measured the fluid when I drained it...had a full six quarts in there!!!! So, thinking that DC know what their doing, I poured 6 quarts back in....so, of course it is a way over full...d@mn....now I have to drain some back out...swell

When you drained the tranny, all you did was drain the pan, you still have fluid in the lines and tourque converter. The converter alone will prob. have any where from 1-2 quarts in it. Just speaking from experiance with G.M.s.
Also, if you cant find a drain plug, loosen the pan bolts, and let the pan "tilt", thats how I drain the fluid out of my tranny's, when I have to check or service them.

I have no idea about the tranny temp. (i have a stick, so don't have gauge for it), but I did just put in a pyro gauge and with my replacement air filter and missing muffler I am running about 50-100 degrees cooler than what you posted @ the same ambient temp, so yours is probably right.
The combination of an AFE Air Intake and Banks Monster exhaust lowered my EGTs 75*-100* pretty much across the board. I think you need both sides of the engine breathing before you do much good. Just my opinion.
EGT sensor pre-turbo cruising at 70mph on level terrain will be between 650* - 800*.
Trans temp sensor in Trans to Trans cooler line cruising at 70mph on level terrain will not get above the 140* mark. In city stop and go traffic will eventually get to about 160* on 90+* day.
These readings are empty, no trailer or heavy load.

Going down the road @ 70mph, Your trans is in OD with torque converter locked, so there is no fluid slippage. So no major heat to record. Drop it out of OD or put a load behind it & you will see it heat up. My Isspro trans gauge w-inline sensor, doesn't register at all empty. As soon as I hook up & pull, or in alot of stop & go traffic it starts to read.
This is the same for most people that I have talked to.
Hope this helps,
Later, Jeromie
