Gauge install questions
 

I finally got my gauges and knocked out a couple of other projects my truck needed, so I'm gearing up for the install. I got the Autometer Phantoms - Oil pressure, EGT, and Trans temp. All will be going in an A-pillar mount.

How did everyone tap into their power wiring? I've heard of some using the cigarette lighter power. Can I power all three from the same place? Using wire taps (maybe an inch or 2 apart)? I read the instructions from Genos that give the dimmer wire for my truck. I'm trying to figure out how to make it clean with three gauges in there!

I generally solder in a wire on the back of the fuse panel, or use a good quality add a circuit fuse tap. Just be sure that it is a key on power source that is fused. You can tie all of the power wires together and run them to the same source - same for the grounds. I would advise against using the taps. I have spent countless hours troubleshooting and repairing them.

Run a wire from the factory gauge circuit; that way they will dime with your other dash lights. That's a handy feature when you're out in the middle of nowhere. You don't want those bright gauge lights in your face.

If your gauges come with the red bulb condoms, use them.

You don't need to use seperate wires and taps for each gauge. The gauges and lamps use very little power. Bring one power and one lamp wire into the pod, and then wire the gauges and lamps in series or in parallel.
