Gates Water Pumps?

I need to replace my water pump since mine took a crap. The OEM part is $354 the gates replacement part from Geno's is 40.

So I'm looking for experiences or opinions from anyone about them.

Is this a dealer or Cummins price?

Dr. Smasher 10-15-2010 01:53 PM

354 is dealer price.

It's easy to change a water pump so i wouldn't worry about a Gates. You have a gauge to see if it's not doing the job. Only drain the coolant below the water pump lever, then 2 10mm bolts, and your done. Use small vg pliers to hold the belt tight to the rest of the pulleys so you have minimal belt to worry about.

Well Dr. I like using Cummins parts but I'm pretty sure it won't be $40 but real sure it won't be $354!

NAPA-Water pump $49.90(Dura something or other)Genuine New - MADE IN :(CHINA POS but I needed it so I installed -so far so good.
Good thing it is easy to install though
-82 k on original pump, which in my opinion is nothing to brag about .........................?????????????????????
Sure beats changing a pump on a FERD P-Stroke(200K on original) though!

Dealer quoted me $354. Upon firther review I was able to determine that it was the thermostat.

Upon installation I learned I will never ever, ever, ever open the drain plug on the radiator again. Besides realizing there was absolutely no reason to do so after the fact. They never go back in in time to stop the entire rad from drainging. Since they are such garbage plastic POS's. I had to pull my rad just to get it back in! Next time I will drill a hole and either drill a hole and tig on a valve or just JBWeld the drill hole closed.

I turned a 10 min job into a whole day waste of time! [duhhh][duhhh]

Agreed when the time comes I'll look for an all aluminum replacement! More costly but I guess I'm old fashioned, plastic doesn't do anything for me:(

I just bought a Cummins Water pump (#2881805) $139.00.
Search the part number, you'll find it. Don't buy some marginal $40.00 part.
If you want to put junk on a expensive engine, go for it.....

Where did you buy it?

Luckily as stated earlier It turned out to just be a thermostat.

PM me and I'll send you the info. I don't think we can put sellers in the posts. I don't want MadHat to have me doing push-ups till the ants know me by my first name....

YOU might check at NAPA to see what the cost on there is! SOUNDS like some one is trying to rip you off.
