gaskets for rear axle - the gasket behind the bolts that hold in the axle
 

Hello eveyone,

I seem to have a rear end fluid leak coming on the inside of my rear tire. To address, I will change out the inner wheel seal, Part No. 710564 from Advance auto.

I did change the rear bearings recently which required this seal to be replaced. I remember that I had to either make a gasket or buy a gasket for the axle flange end, the very end of the axle that has the 8 bolts or so which keeps the axle onto the hub.

Does anyone know if they make this gasket or if I have make this my self?

If so, a part number / name / local store information would be great.

Yes, they make a gasket. I used to get them from a local shop back when I lived in Iowa. Inland Truck Parts, google them to see if there is one by you. Id just tell them the truck or the axle I had and they could look them up. I have even cheated and used silicone. Dodge may have them too, but prob want $$$ and wont have them.
shouldn't be too hard of a part to find. Did you try Napa, Autozone, Etc.?

X2 on the silicone. Even a piece of cardboard gasket material with some oil on it in a pinch.

I used silicone on both, my front and rear differentials last time that I changed their fluids.. I just let it set for about 45 minutes or so before I put the cover and fluids back on and all is well...

I do my differentials and transfer case once a year, so I check it often..

you sure its not the pinion seal that's tossing out oil? or did I misunderstand that you did that one already...

It's his axle seal leaking not the diff cover.

The diff gaskets on these trucks are reusable. Did you get rid of yours and use ONLY silicone?

they seemed a little "weathered" so I added some insurance to them
