Fuel Spraying EVERYWHERE under hood

While driving home tonite I hit a fairly good size pothole and then immediately noticed a HEAVY fuel smell inside the truck. Drove about 3 miles home, popped hood and noticed that the fuel lines toward the back of the engine, at what looks like one of the blue fuel line support bushings was spraying like a mosquito fogger on steroids. Is this a case of the "split line syndrome that I have heard about on the 3rd gens? How hard is it to replace, and do I have to replace all or just the leaking line? I have not torn into it yet, just did a visual to see where it was leaking. Anyone care to give me their .02 worth?

Thanks

Gary

Common problem number 4 fuel line cracked new line has crimped fuel line retainer hopefully they have fixed problem with that.

You will need a 19mm wrench and 10mm socket and extension. Make sure you use back up wrench on the fuel injector side of line. Check the torque of the injector tube nut before installing new line should be 37 ft lbs.

Thanks BI!
I thought I had read about a line taking a dump pretty regularly. The #4 looks easy enough to get at and I see an add in local Craigslist for a complete rail assy and all lines for 50.00.

Gonna give em a call in the morning and see if I can bargain him down, that way I will have all 6 just in case. I appreciate your input.

While nothing wrong with having spares, it is more often then not the #4 line that cracks. In fact, Cummins released an updated version of the #4 with a newer metal clamp that is supposed to alleviate the cracking that is otherwise too common. It is available form either Cummins or Genos garage for about $26 plugs shipping.
It is Cummins Part # 5289447

Well, was able to get an entire fuel rail assembly with all injector lines for 40 bucks. Pulled #4 off of donor and installed on truck and the mosquito fogging episode is now over. Gotta take truck to car wash and hose off the fuel that escaped.

Thanks for the replies!

Good news is the fuel all over the place is a great degreaser. I check my fuel line clamps at every oil change.
